First time here a little while ago and I have to say that they do have the best fried pickles I have ever had along with the fish burger too..This place was not overly packed on a saturday night.me and my fieance will be back soon..oh and I would like to conquer the man vs food meal too...

We only went here once. I would go back but I haven't had the opportunity yet. We had a good experience. The owner was there and he was friendly. I loved the fried pickles! Yum. I got the tuna melt and it was delicious. This place definitely had more of a bar feel which is fine if that's what you like. I don't drink alcohol so I was thankful for the seating on the other side away from the action.

Amazing place. Mom and pop feel. The food is great and comforting. Fun, friendly, old America at its best. Love the music.

Quite literally a diamond in the rough. While searching for a bar to watch the Warriors that had decent food options and wasn't in the hipster hell of berkley, we came across the up and under pub. An old English, rugby style pub feel complete with a never ending stream of aging regulars that were mostly stumbling around hammered. I love it! Ha. The atmosphere is was brought me here but the menu is what's bringing me back. No sloppy bar food here. This is some elevated gastro pub fare. The ahi poke appetizer had some serious flavor. I was a little nervous at first to order poke at a bar but I'm glad I did. Very good and very fresh. There were several sandwich options to chose from and both ours were fantastic. My "special" of the day chicken sandwich was way overly salty but delicious nonetheless. 1 star deduction for a fairly limited beer selection. They do have several craft beers to choose but there were only 2 that weren't IPA's. ( I hate ipa's) one was a chocolate beer and the other was not available. Though it worked out cause they had Boont amber ale, though it wasn't on the menu.

Past three visits over as many months have been disappointing. Seems to be some sort of animosity surrounding the wait staff, bar tender, and kitchen. Our recent experience was with a waitress who was REALLY pissed about something and found waiting on us to be tantamount to having a root canal without anesthesia. She disappeared... We hailed someone else down after awhile, finally got our beer. Had to hail down kitchen staff to place dinner order. Had to chase down our food as bar tender paraded it around another area of the dining area attempting to give to someone...... anyone ! Couldn't find anyone to order desert... nor give us a check to pay.... finally found bar tender to pay. Wasted two and a half hours. Food quality has gone down, soggy overcooked pasta, overcooked (burnt) calamari, mushy veggies. I hope they can pull it back together as I rather enjoy the ambiance and location and prices.

Decent food, but service was a little spotty. Ordered the special chicken pesto sandwich, which was ok, but the pesto lacked flavor. Onion rings were delicious. The vibe is a little weird. It's all rugby-themed, but the seating isn't that comfortable. Probably won't be back.

I've been here twice now and my experience today was much worse than the first. The first time, they were either out of a bunch of stuff or the menu items were outdated and they were no longer available. I ordered the Rob and the chef accidentally spilled a bottle of pepper in my mashed potatoes and served them to me anyway. My experience today started off the same, they were out of a bunch of items and had the same damn outdated menu. I ordered fried pickles only for the clueless waitress with the braces to come back and say that they were all out. The I was told by the other bitch of a "head" waitress that they actually were taking them off the menu. I ordered the artichokes instead. No flavor whatsoever. I ordered the steak for my meal, scalloped potatoes, medium rare. I was served a well done steak and of course they didn't have scalloped potatoes. I asked for steak sauce, they don't provide steak sauce. Of course they don't because the overly confident and overweight Bald guy who runs the place is an idiot who has the palate of a person who drinks water directly out of the Bay. He thinks steak sauce is overrated. Of course he does but can't update the menu or keep items that are actually popular with his customers. But who cares about customers? Certainly not this place. I was dissatisfied with my meal and not once was I asked if they could do anything to fix it. Instead, watched as the waitresses and the bald guy make snarky faces as they passed each other when heading over to my table. My fiancé backed me up on our disappointed but stated that he liked his pasta. Can't really fuck up pasta now can you? The bald guy's response was that he'd take one win walked away. I was so upset at that their total lack of EVERYTHING that I told my fiancé I'd meet him in the car. Whe he came out he said that the bald guy offered to do right by us the next time. Are you freaking kidding me? We will never go back to that wanna be Thomas Kellers' establishment again!

Good beer selection and great food, but the service was AWFUL! It far too long to get a food menu, and even then it was hard to get someone to take my order. The menu is on a single sheet, so it's hard to cue that you're ready to order by closing it.

Great small business. Rugby themed restaurant and bar with a bunch of great food and drink options. Service is great and the do a good job of accommodating groups.

Beer. Good. Service. Great. Food. Myeh. Got a 3/4 pound burger "stuffed with blue cheese, carmelized onions and bacon." What I got was a well done patty that may have had a single onion but no bacon and a trace of blue cheese. I didn't taste any of it. And it came dry on a ciabatta roll when I was hoping to see it topped with carmelized onions and bacon (that might be my mistake). Food was edible but not anything to write home about. Maybe I just picked a bad day. Beer selection and service was good. Could be fun for a big game. Have tvs with sports on (a big plus). Just avoid the blue cheese burger.

Everything my husband and I come to point Richmond, we stop by this bar. Happy hours menu is highly recommended. Chicken wings are so tender and juicy. Sour dough cheese sandwich are hot and satisfying. Fresh fries with green onion just make me want more. People here are very friendly. And sometimes you can learn a story or two from the local regulars. It is definitely a place for us who don't even drink.

Came here for Paint Nite with the boyfriend - but the location is the upstairs of the bar so I didn't get a good view or get to experience the bar itself. We did get to experience the mini bar upstairs of the pub, which had a limited selection and brings food from the kitchen upstairs to customers too. They didn't have a large selection of wines/beers so I wasn't completely satisfied. We settled on a Corona for the rest of the Paint Nite.

I went last night for the first time for dinner. I was a little concerned about how varied the reviews were, but it was pretty convenient so I decided to try it. We had good service, but i noticed a table or two who had a little trouble getting the attention of their server for a while after arriving. Interestingly enough, they got their meal before we did. Definitely a pub feel, a little different in that it has a rugby theme. We had the poke, which was a little heavy on the ginger soy, but solid. I had the fish and chips - the fries are amazing! The coleslaw was good. The fish was a bit heavy and not as much flavor as I would have liked, but overall good. My brother had the Full Back sandwich, which he devoured, so I assume it was good. I would try it again.

#1 by review count NOT quality!!!! What a joke of an eatery. Overpriced and not very good food for the money. I went back again today and after waiting 30 min still no food. Went back to work hungry because the failed to honestly communicate that the kitchen was short staffed and "behind". Utter failure to me as the client as I left hungry. Here is a tip if your going to serve food and your staff does not show up to work...tell your SERVERS to tell your patrons that you apologize for the DELAY you KNOW will occur. Telling me after I asked that they are told NOT to tell us this is an INSULT to INJURY. This place is a bar at best...eat here If your drinking and don't care about timing. As a restaurant they SUCK! Un-f-ing believe able in the SF area this place is still operating.... if the did not serve booze this dive bar would be out of business.

Funky, very lively pub with great energy & super friendly and nice staff. The beer & ale selection is good, not great (of course, some of the places I go have 20 or 30 taps or more, so not a fair comparison). Full bar, so you can get other drinks if you want. The food? OK, nothing special, though in fairness all I had was fried artichoke hearts & a western bacon burger & fries. All tasty and satisfying, but no great shakes. STILL, I would recommend this as a very fun, congenial drinking and noshing spot. Next time, I will try more of the appetizers and some other food, and maybe my review will change upward.

5 stars because it's a fantastic example of how bar food can be great when places stay in their comfort zone and keep things simple. Stopped in for lunch and immediately loved the atmosphere..smoker bbq outside and a good sized lunch crowd. Nice selection of simple bar selections including several burgers. I tried the bbq burger and from the bun up this messy beast of a meal was delightful. All the other food I saw looked tasty as well, tons of barbecue items will definitely require a return trip. I honestly didn't expect to find anything remotely memorable in Richmond and I was pleasantly surprised. Great spot!

Nice location. Cool old-timey pub feel. Tasted the dirty hooker, it was cheesy goodness. Love the criss-cross fries and the regular fries were good too. The surprise was the ahi tuna sandwich with wasabi mayo sauce and crunchy asian slaw on a ciabatta (?). I will be back.

  • Caiti C.

Definitely a local favorite. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, the staff inviting, and food delicious. The drinks are strong and keep you wanting to order more. The stuffed bell pepper they offer as the occasional special is as good, if not better, than anything you can make at home.

Nice servers, crappy food. Ordered a $14.00 the crash burger, it came way over cooked, could taste the cheese, The coleslaw was an honorable mention, but a small portion maybe a tablespoon.

Ok so i hear that Up and Under is awesome, great food, location blah blah blah from everyone i know. Not to mention a friend DJ told me to go and i wasn't able to come but a friend of mine and her love came in last night for some drinks, food, and karaoke. So they ordered a bacon cheeseburger and he ordered a couple of drinks. Karaoke was fun as always. So to make the story short the servers were too busy to tend to us, they were having too much fun talking to other people and they forgot the bacon on my burger and forgot my luv's beer. There were two of us, not five or more people( that would've been worse) all the rave about this place!!! I'm very disappointed!! Needless to say but the service last night was a bust. I think that when you have a somewhat popular establishment like this, you should really work on good customer service!!! Not to mention, me and my hubby came in one evening and the place seem stuck up and uninviting so we walked out to say the least. I think i will stick to Baltic.

Valentine's Day lunch with family. We ended up at this Up & Under Pub on a search to have an al fresco meal. Ended up eating in the back corner of the restaurant since limited space outside. Pros: The food was very good according to several family members. The burgers were delicious and the food was brought out immediately. Plenty of fries. And a kid's menu. Plus, the drinks were immediately refilled. Pro Plus: Excellent recommendation of the beer, Stella Artois Con: $$$ 70.00 for a lunch of two adult meals, one kids meal, one appetizer. 3 soft drinks and two small beers. Cons: Also, the inside of the pub is kind of ...how shall I write this...Like an English pub after a rugby match. The back seat is one long bench for two different tables. Purchase two benches. Our English waiter was uninformed about the sport of rugby. Knowledge of rugby seems important, eh. It might be great to have a lunch outside or watch a rugby match.

Holy shit! ! Well it's our first time here. Boom! ! That's how good it tasted. Super good. We had the bacon wrapped asparagus. Super bomb! I had the special of the day. Grill Salmon. Grill veggies. Fully loaded baked potato. Hella good. Remy had the dirty hooker. Loaded grill cheese with hella different cheese and bacon. Cole slaw was super good. Bomb ass beer's too. We're definitely coming back!!

A great place to grab a burger and a pint. It's a pretty lively sports pub with a rugby theme going on, and several flat screen TVs showing the latest sporting events. I normally come here for special work-related celebration lunches. Today, I went with coworkers for after-work drinks and apps. Calamari was fried well and had two types of tangy dipping sauces. Fried pickles was also good - a unique flavor, and more forgiving than say fried jalapeños! For drinks I had a bottle of their ginger beer - it had about 5 or 6% alcohol but it was really hard to detect. Still, very refreshing for a hot afternoon (even at 430pm!) and a good alternative to their very many beers.

Cannot believe this place has four stars. The food is ok, but the service is terrible. I have not been here in awhile. I stopped eating here because every time the order was wrong or we had to wait forever. My coworker had a raw chicken in her sandwich. The last time I went, we waited 45 minutes for lunch and wound up taking it Togo. They were apologetic, but offered no explanation or discount. I hope they have improved, because options are limited in this area.

Severely Disappointed. Smelled the grilling going on outside so I went inside and asked for whatever was cooking. Ordered a Wet Frenchman, which turned out to be a stinky, dry grey snip of meat, so I gave it to the dog, but even she had trouble chewing it. Obviously came off some grill a day or two ago. So the smoking going on outside is a bait-and-switch. $14 FAKE OUT.

I love coming here, great staff, beers, drinks, etc.. but why did you change the burger bun? The previous bun was soft, buttery, and made us classify your burger as the BEST in West County. Unfortunately the new bread is terrible, hard, tasteless, and completely ruined our high hopes of traveling out to Up and Under. I've brought a lot of friends there and each new friend we brought we insisted they do not eat anything but the "is it called outside center", burger and every friend we brought said the same thing. "WoW you weren't kidding, what a great burger!" Message to the owner, I'm sure you like the "new" bread but A LOT of your customers LOVE the way the burger was. Please at least give us the option. Otherwise I guarantee I'll be getting calls, Facebook messages, Instagram pics, Tweets, and YouTube videos from all the friends I've brought there saying, what the heck happened? It's no longer the Best Burger in West County. Bottomline I personally classified it as the best in the Bay. Bring back the old bun!!!! 3.5 stars but if u bring back the original bun I'll bring back my 5 stars!! Deal??

Saturday nite 8:30 1/3/15 3 of us had a Home turf salad with seared tuna and feta (a bit lite on the feta) & 2 regular 1/2lb. burgers great buns well made except the kitchen forgot to put my lemon aiolli on the side (it was slathered over the meat) Our terrific waitress Annie got me a replacement Thanks ! then our Hendrick"s Martini ($8!) arrived and was really dilute (maybe too long in the ice shaker?) we asked for a new one & Annie was happy to oblige..but then the bartender (looking a bit pissed off) came to our table to ask how we expected it to be chilled..Didn't have an answer but have had a lot of Martini's in my day & that one was weak! but he made us another & it was perfect! cold and tasting of gin thanks Barman! great waffle fries too...will return.. an interesting joint with a 45 minute eating challenge that costs $45 if you don't finish it...& free if you do!

Ok so was going to have a beer not much to choose from where is the variety? to hell with the imports where is the locals?? anyways so had the outside burger who was the genius who said let's put it on a ciabatta really? Really? Hard as a rock I asked for medium rare got a rubbery hockey puck nice and I think leaf lettuce would be better than a stick of romaine hell even iceberg I'll take it I wanted to like this place it seems cool but they need a better beer selection and some thought for thier food where is the TLC?

Disappointed overall with our dinner of pub fare- Uncomfortable seating, strong odor of cigarettes emanating from the kitchen. Should have stepped in there to complain. Way overpriced based on quality. Interesting that the glass of house Cab (feh) was a very generous pour (like 6-8 oz in a huge wine glass- but made me feel like it was more carelessness than generosity.. There was a HIGHLIGHT: the house made blueberry cobbler served with house made ice-cream was :what made this a 3 star review. Go for essert or go to the bar. As for the food, skip it.

This is a cool little British/rugby/sports pub in Point Richmond. A great list of beers and a full bar. Interesting Rugby themed casual setting. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. They have a $37 dollar cheeseburger that is like 2 feet high. Its incredible. Don't get it without being hungry.

I ordered the Four-Nations BBQ Chicken Salad. I was given the option to add Seared Ahi Tuna $6.95, and I did. When I got the salad there was no chicken! The food was brought out by someone else and we never saw our waitress again until we were finished eating. I was so hungry I just ate what I got. I was charged for the chicken as well as the tuna! You can order bread for $2, don't bother, it is thick sliced wonder bread. Very poor and slow service. The cook doesn't know what the menu says. Everything we ordered had something wrong.

Strange kinda of an experience. First, our reservation goes missing, despite having confirmed our reservation for six. Then, the maitre'd finds the reservation and says that someone made a mistake and put the reservation at the bottom of the page. The busboy ends up using our table as a way station for other tables' dirty/discarded dishes. That's right, you did not misread this. THEN!, the waitress charges all three of our credit cards, 2 and 3x for each of our total charges. Our credit card company picked up on the error, but none of us got a return call or promised (by Jill, the manager), hard copy credit card reversal/credit sent to us. Two messages left for Jill, a month later, and no return call. Advice: beware your reservation and the attendant charges. The credit card slip did not show the triple charges, but the waitress had told us that she had struggled with the machine, and so we each called our credit card company to learn of the error. Jill, call people back when you say you will, especially in the face of objectively-erring behavior on the part of your staff. It makes you and the pub look bad.

The atmosphere is great for a dive bar. The staff are all pretty friendly. My only set back is that I have been here many times and the food just isn't anything special. I keep trying different things on the menu and the food is pretty mediocre for pub food. The drinks are great though and I love the outdoor seating. My rating is based on food not the bar itself or the drinks.

I've been here a few times with my family, the staff is friendly and the food is okay. Sorry, I don't really have a lot to say about this place, it's just okay. I have no complaints, and I have nothing to rave about. Give it a try though if you haven't been there, it's worth visiting at least once.

This is where I fell in love with bacon blue cheese stuffed burgers!!!! When we arrived we were greeted like old friends. We sat down and had a lovely chat with our server and began to look at the wonderful menu. Every item sounds amazing if only I had the time to try every item or the stomach to hold it all. (If you have said stomach they have a challenge with your name on it!) I finally decided to go with a burger and I must say the bacon blue cheese stuffed burger was the best burger I have had in all my years of burger noshing. I will be returned next time I am in the area that is for sure!

We stopped in on a Friday night for a beer and bite to eat at the bar. The people are friendly and we didn't have a problem finding a spot to sit. Although I am partial to wheat beer and didn't find one here, there is a good variety of beers on tap, including Smithwicks Ale, Guinness and a few local IPA's. I drank a Belgian Chimay (bottle) and my date had a Stella Artois draft. I was disappointed in the food. I ordered a couple of filet mignon sliders with caramelized onions and blue cheese. Sounds good, right? Not so much. The onions were sautéed but nowhere near caramelized, the sandwich roll was bland and dry, the steak portion on each sandwich was thin and too small to even fill a slider, and the whole thing was smothered in cheese. My date had better luck with a beef brisket sandwich. The meat was tender and the portion was large enough to command a doggie bag.

I honestly want to like it, but the quality of the food has gone down, the service borders on questionable at best and seems to be the worst part of the experience, and the bar could use someone with more training. The point desperately needs a hang out zone, so it exists in spite of it all. If the front of the house could get it together most of us would still come to the point for so-so food. If you are in the point anyway, this is pretty much the only option other than the Mac as the Baltic is definitely a waste of your money, but it would not be worth going to the point for the pub or you will likely be disappointed.

Awesome Pub! That should be the name. For a Pub this place is by far my favorite to come. It's a bit out of my way but well worth it. The ambience and the friendly staff are great but the fooooooooood is one of the best pub food I have had. I love to come here. I have ordered several things from the menu and have never been disappointed. I have taken some of my clients and friends here to eat. The Point Richmond neighborhood is one that most do not know of. Well you should! Its about time you do. It is a wonderful place to hang out and visit with real old town charm. A place hidden in time and still in the immediate Bay Area. 5 Stars!!!

This place impressed me for several reasons - it's in deep Richmond by the refineries, and it's unexpectedly quaint. You walk into an old english tavern and everything you know of Richmond and all your preconceived notions of Richmond just quietly disappears. Friendly atmosphere, good service, and I really enjoyed the food. Interesting menu and they have stuff like the Dirty Hooker, Sin Bin, Wet Frenchman, or the Outside Center, which I had for lunch. The lemon aioli made the burger! It was moist, grilled to perfection, and the bun was different - not the typical sesame bun. It was almost like a pretzel bun but softer and "butterier"! I added bacon, of course! You can substitute the fries with waffle fries or onion rings - I had the onion rings! Overall, very positive experience. They sell spoof shirts among other souvenirs so if you have friends from out of town down for a little adventure, this might be a good spot. If they've heard rough tales of Richmond, this place might actually change their minds. I wouldn't recommend going at night, but for lunch, why not?! It's a good pit stop to SF if you're headed towards the city! Anyway, check this place out - surprisingly impressive.

Came here on a Saturday afternoon with my family. We had kids so we sat towards the back side not by the bar. And let me tell you I loved their burgers!!! Like really really love their burgers! Got seated right away and food didn't take long either. Service was great and all the food we had was delicious! No complaints!! Oh and did I mention I've been back a number of times. ;)

Came here with my cousins for lunch during the week and it was packed!!!! Lucky there was some tables open so we didn't have to wait. First we order the junk fries and I have to say that was probably the best thing we ate there. We all order different sandwiches forgot names but they were good ok nothing that would make you want to order again. The place is good to try once maybe if I got next time I will try something else but for sure I will order the fries!!

Good noisy fun in a Rugby/Futbol atmosphere. Generous portions. Split a dish perhaps if you didn't go hiking, bike riding, defeating the Evil Empire or something equally strenuous. Great Pub Food in a wonderful pub. I had the Fish & Chips & K had the Vegie Burger. Good Good.

They have something called the Crash Burger, which is a patty STUFFED with blue cheese and caramelized onions. The thing is humongous and I couldn't seem to get my mouth around it. But I ate it, not all of it, as it is humongous. I like their pub fries. It's the skinny kind. I had it with their bbq sauce on the side. Try it. It is on the tomato-y side. They have a pretty large menu too, and nothing has disappointed. Service is good, and is well managed. Place has that classic pub look, with sports memorabilia everywhere and a loud and lively atmosphere to go with it.

Pretty nice place. I came here with my fiance on saturday night and they were packed but not to busy. Very VERY friendly service and good customer service. I tried the fried pickles for the first time and they were amazing!!!!! My meal last night was amazing. It was the special, grilled and smoked pork chop with peas and potatoes and it was off the chain. Only issue I have is they don't have Heretic's Evil Cousin on draft anymore. Figure I'd post so Nate brings it back.

So I went there on a friday night for the first time and it actually wasnt too bad. Got there around 8pm and it didnt get busy till like around 9pm but by then I was already buzzed. I came out for a "Ladies night" lol go figure. I ordered beer the whole night , and for the munchies I ordered a big western cheeseburger cooked medium well but came out medium rare! Service was nice and fast. I had a good time here and its very close to home I would deff come back! Also the bartender was pretty cool I ended up buying him a shot of jack daniels and took one with him before I left : )

There was traffic going to the Richmond Bridge. We decided to stop to eat and avoid the traffic. We decided to stop at this place to try it out. We order the Kiwi, the non-spicy chicken wing. It was really good. The batter was fried nicely brown and not too greasy. We loved it! My husband ordered the Wet Frenchmen with au jus. He said it was really tasty and the sauce was pretty flavorful too. The servers were really nice and explained everything to us. We also had the non-alcoholic ginger beer. It was made with real sugar and real ginger. We saw the fried onions on the table next to us. They were fried to perfection. Next time, I want to try the onion and have the Kiwi's again. Afterwards, we walked around the town. Since it was 6/13, it was Point to Point, a pop up weekend to celebrate various artwork, we got to see a lot of galleries and work by artists that aren't usually opened to the public. Due to the traffic, we got a chance to try a place and explore a town we never would have thought to try.

Now, this has to be about the most friendly pub in the Bay Area. It has a serious rugby theme, a good beer and liquor selection, bartenders that know how to pour a real drink, and has good versions of all the important pub food. It has a few TVs, and could maybe use a couple more, but that's not a knock. It's a good start or end to a fun evening.

I really like this place...the beer is cold, the servers are cheeky and the food is good. I love "The Rob", which is chicken with cheese and bacon, and mashed potatoes. What is not to love about that? The TVs are small so if you're planning to watch the Giants game, you'll need to sit at the bar. I've been there several times and enjoyed each visit.

This place is awesome! I go here a lot having lived in Point Richmond for years. They have fantastic beer selections, fish and chips, salads also, specifically the Caprese sandwich is fantastic and so is the BBQ. We take our kids for lunch and dinner as the dining room is on the side so they aren't "in the bar" Also, if you are looking for a safe local place to have a few drinks and fun with normal people also highly recommended!

Food is just so so. The wait staff is horrendous as is the neanderthal that comes out of the kitchen and throws your food at you. Having said all that, the owner works hard and tries to make dining a pleasant experience. It is just not possible with the raunchy waitresses that grace the place. Won't be coming back for quite awhile. Why waste your money??????????

I went in because it looked like a pretty cool place - wrong! Not crowded; bartender hung-out at the other end of the bar for 10 minutes shooting the breeze and never walked the 25 feet to take my order. Got fed-up and left. Lazy and unfriendly staff. Will never go back.

I don't, nor can I give five stars. I am a local. I've gotten to really know the UP & Under well. Tuesday trivia, really wonderful specials to complement their above pub grade menu, and hard working staff who include the owners who make the ice cream fresh. I guess I enjoy coming here. Good folk, great food. Come with friends and a smile. No me-first attitude here. If Bruce is there, ask about Amsterdam.

Man, I've been a resident of Richmond for the past 13 years and how am I just now learning about this place? I seem to forget about Point Richmond... and that's a shame since it's such a great area. I came here last week for my friend's graduation lunch. Man this place was good. I ordered the burger with bleu cheese and bacon cooked into the patty. It was delicious. The french fries were also well made. My own complaint was that our pitcher of stella was not as fresh. But that was likely because we had to wait on one of our friends. Might also be because I am not a fan of Stella.... All in all there was plenty on the menu that I want to come back and try. And I just know my dad would fall in love with this place in an instant.

Just stumbled on the place for lunch. Had the pulled chicken special, which is a bbq chicken sandwich with onion rings. The sandwich was tasty; the chicken was well prepared; just wish there was slightly more chicken. The potato salad side was a generous cup. It all was a nice fix for a BBQ craving. The bar also looks like a cool place to throw back some beers. From the sign, I can tell that Happy Hour doesn't start for another hour and a 1/2, at 3:00...which is an awesome time to start, on any given day. For me, a good thing because my work day isn't over.

Great Atmosphere, very small community and near Chevron Refinery. Plenty of people passing through all the time and they have game night on Tuesdays. Food is 4 out of 5 is my opinion. Live band every last Friday of month. Smoker going out front so order "The Wet Frenchmen".

  • Kimberly D.

I wish they would simply their food - the chef doesn't realize that certain things either don't go together or shouldn't go together. bartenders have a tendency to either over pour or under pour. I would rather walk down the street to the hotel mac & get the cuban or a prime rib sandwich and a beer for a few more dollars. Most disgusting thing - the carpet and the personal hygiene of the staff. Ewwwww!

Me and a friend decided to go out to dinner after work so we decided to try a new place, This place was great very customer service oriented our waitress was very attentive and even the other waitresses came over to help, a gentleman even came over and asked us how everything was going he must have been the manager or owner, I had the The Wet Frenchman and the macaroni and cheese , I cleaned my plate, great cozy pub I will be returning with my friend.

This place is great! Located where you probably wouldn't think you'd find anything awesome... staff - very friendly and patient even when its super busy; drinks - made strong; other patrons - happy, smiling and friendly; ambiance and decor - kinda dim, bustling with music and convo - the way a pub should be (I really liked the rugby theme). Cactus! Fried cactus. Never thought I'd try it but I did. Not bad.. made me think of fried okra! Fish tacos were the specialty the night we came and they were pretty delicious - 3 tacos on corn tortillas, heaping with no-wheat-containing battered fish. Yum. My friend was dying to try the fried cheesecake but unfortunately they were out. Reason to come back again!

One of my all time favorite spots. The Up and Under is a rugby pub and it is dressed to the nines to that effect. The lamp shades over the bar are rugby balls! Even if you're not a fan of the sport, the place has some quirky, home attitude that sinks in and will mellow you out. The mixed drinks are great, the beer selection is fun, and there's even karaoke certain nights of the week! It's also one of the few pubs/bars I feel safe in whenever I want to get drinks with my gal pals as it also caters to family dining. I am a huge fan of the food. Their stuffed burgers are good, the Full Back is my go-to meal, the appetizers are yummy and if you like grilled cheese, you must ask for your Hooker with bacon. My only gripe is that I want the Richmond Prick back! Beer battered cactus deep fried with chipotle aoli dipping sauce? NOM.

  • Jane D.

Really quite good pub food. Friday yummy fish tacos and every day a new special is posted outside. The bartenders are pros and make excellent drinks and the service is friendly. It's a Rugby Pub and the menu is at least partially written in rugby-ese. But it's a pretty full menu and on some days the owner pulls up his big smoker and you can order a variety of smoked meats. I didn't give it 5 stars because the big copper ceiling is low and seems to amplify sound. It can be very difficult to have a conversation or even hear yourself think - but if you don't mind yelling a little to make yourself heard then it is a great place.

Mmmm, I discovered another side to the Up & Under recently, the food! I stopped into the Up & Under, a familiar spot I've been to before in Point Richmond. This place is a favorite of the HH King, so we stopped in for some good brews and appetizers. I ordered a Manhattan to start and it was delicious. I had only had beer on tap before, so this was new ground at the Up and Under. Next up we ordered a bottle of Chimay to split, which is always good. Sharing is caring. I ordered a bowl of the New England Style Bacon Clam Chowder. Yes I said Bacon! This was the BEST Clam Chowder, creamy and savory with huge chunks of potatoes, bacon and clams. I freaking LOVED this soup. He ordered the Knock Ons which were crispy beer battered tiger prawns with a aoli and cocktail sauce. They were really great too. Didn't even think to take pictures of the food. ;( For dessert, we split a bottle of the Chocolate Stout. We have good taste in beer and know how to use our calories wisely. I was totally impressed with the service, the food, the drinks and loved coming here to discover that there is much more going on than I expected at the Up & Under.

This is a cool, what appears to be an Australian Rugby Bar with an English or Irish Pub vibe about it. If you're hungry for a burger and a beer, this place will not let you down. Looks like the ideal place to go to on a hot day with its cool, dark interior. Atmosphere's really sociable and comfortable. Not too loud and not pin droppingly silent. A great lunch place in Richmond and worth the drive from Oakland where something this good does not exist.

Sunday Funday $3.50 beers on tap. They got blue moon and stella so the hubby and I were both happy. I had the Fly Half - Cajan Ahi Tuna on a Ciabatta bun. It was spicier than I expected but very tasty. The fries that came with it were just how I like my fries ... McDonald's like - thin and crunchy. Great day to sit outside and enjoy the sun. Service outside was a bit slow, but super friendly. I don't head out this way much anymore ... but I would definitely recommend dropping by if you're in the area or passing through.

The place is really good. Love the food, staff, and atmosphere. Only down side is it is always super packed. So the wait is a bit long even on the slow days. But always worth the wait. Go check it out.

OK. This has got to be my new favorite restaurant in the east bay. This is the 2nd time we've come for dinner and both times the food was amaaazing, extremely good and perfectly presented. This place has a really cool decor and atmosphere, not to mention the music they play in the background is all 80s. Although its a pub, the food taste like a five star gourmet restaurant. The walls inside are plastered with rugby related memorabilia. I don't really follow that so I can take it or leave it but you can't deny the fun atmosphere this place offers. Our service the 2nd time was very good and we enjoyed our wait staff. I would have given this place a 5 star rating but the first time we came here, the service was extremely slow and our waitress forgot a few items we had ordered. When you finish your meal and then brings you the side, that's a problem for me. Needless to say, we returned with some friends only because the food was extraordinary and thankfully this time had a better experience with our server. Several of us had the halibut special and it was as good as it gets. We're looking forward to trying a happy hour here at some time. Point Richmond is a quaint little town with a waterfront landscape. When a restaurant is situated near that type of location, in my book, its already got a star ahead of everyone else!

Hands down the best restaurant in Point Richmond! The new manager here took an already great restaurant, and somehow made it better. I love this place for the unique rugby digs and amazing food. The happy hour here is AWESOME.

Nice little pub in point richmond. I had the blue cheese stuffed burger which was ok. Serving size was good for a $12 burger. And I was there for happy hour so my anchor steam was $1 off. They had a unique happy hour menu featuring deviled eggs which the guy next to me got and looked really good.

I don't understand what happened months ago this was a highly recommended bar with wonderful food has clearly been changes for the worse. Too much smoke flavoring in the steak sandwich "eight-man" it he was a ten, now it two. fish a five.

YUMMM!! Awesome food, great ambience. Pt. Richmond has some good restaurants, but this one's my fave. Tuna Poke appetizer is a meal in itself. Blue cheese stuffed burger is incredible too. It can get pretty noisy, but it is what it is.

Solid lunch establishment with a rich history of sports adorning it's vaunted walls (rugby I believe). Service is awesome, the menu options diverse, and the food excellent. Came here for a quick working lunch, got my food promptly (fried calimari was excellent), and it was pretty affordable as well. Definitely worth a shot, and looks like they know how to pour a mean pint here.

I came here for the first time a couple weeks ago for dinner and half price pints with my girlfriend so we decided to check out karaoke night with our friends. It felt like we weren't welcome and it was a bit awkward. I'll maybe come back for dinner and drinks but definitely not to hang out. Maybe it's a Point Richmond only type deal, but that's how it felt.

  • Lily K.

I've been here a handful of times. Wait staff are extremely awesome! They'll remember you after a few visits and if you order the same thing, they'll have it on the table just after you walk in. Now that's my kinda place! Have had the chicken sandwich (the full back?) a couple times...sooooo goood! Bacon, chicken, and cheese sandwich, yea, yum! yum! They have a band every other Thursday evening as well if you're into live music, although they don't start up til about 10 PM, so it's a late night deal. Meal prices are also very reasonable as well. Sandwich and fries was $8.95 and the beer was a few bucks as well. Selection on tap is expansive compared to other places I've been.

second time here and once again FOOD IS FU%@ING EXCELENT!!!! service was a bit slow but all in all if you haven't been or want to go someplace new and good I highly suggest you do yourself and your taste buds a favor and go to the up and under grill in Point Richmond

PROS: *I love the atmosphere here! And all the decor! *It has a nice rugby feel to it CONS: *The service wasn't great, she took other people's orders who were there after us before ours *She never refilled our drinks *No one looked happy to be there *The "Eight Man" was too plain and dry for our liking. Nothing special

the 2nd time i was ever here i thought i would give it another chance once again i was right this place was wrong no flavor to the dried up flat ass chicken that was brought to me and she said they ran out of steak but as i walk in i see this awesome bbq in the front of the establishment but nobody on it i'm like we'll danm such a beautiful night nice and warm but bbq isn't going maybe i should of shown people what i do for a living shit i bet you my waitresses wouldn't be saying we're out of steak lol spend 65 bucks for 2 people for dried chicken and watered down clam chowder plus i asked for a desert that she said you guys didn't have no more both times i was there was horrible if you need a chef or bbqer let me know that's what i do so if you need help call me text me send me a letter you gotta sit down with your staff and get them in gear because i know rugby players don't eat water down things and they eat steaks i'm not talking 8oz or 14oz steaks either so let's try to make your spot hot by changing things around good luck . Thank you

Anyone that knows me well understands that I thrive at Mom & Pop establishments. Now combine that with having an amazing 'your neighbors den' atmosphere in 'The Point' and wow...you've got something special. The staff is professional and efficient. We chatted with our Server after she gave us the 'YOU HAVE 5 MINUTES' warning. Which meant that the kitchen closed at 10P and we were chumps for walking in and expecting service. Normally I would not order, but...we were hungry and what ensued was way more than I expected especially from an unassuming pub in Richmond of all places. My date and I decided that we wanted to try 2 things on the menu so we split 2 entrees. The first entree was The Pacific Rim sandwich...tender, juicy soy marinated chicken w/their house-made slaw on a chibatta that will knock your socks off! The side of slaw was really above average, crispy and well seasoned. Next...The Loop. What's The Loop you ask? Well...it's a little slice of heaven on a bun...and not just any bun...a toasted bun perfect for this HUGE burger stuffed w/pasilla peppers! DYNAMITE!!!! Yummy mushrooms and avocado too...and the regular stuff like tomato, red onion and lettuce. The fries were crispy and tossed in parsley and seasoned just right. Not alot of fries :( but really we didn't need them...the burger was truly exceptional without the fries. Quick service...great food and a great surprise in Point Richmond. Well done!

These people know how to cook a burger. Ordered mine med rare and it was perfect. Pink in the middle, juicy and flavorful. Though they went a tad overboard with the mayo, everything else was great.

The only real happening place on a Friday in the point. So let's keep this simple right. No real happy hour to speak of because as I stated the owner's must feel the same so why give a discount if you are coming to the only place where people are anyway. Second: bar food is never something you write home about, though if I order something that night I hope to eat it before I leave two hours later ( slow service, I'll sit at the bar next to the toothless rail worker next time) It did have a selection of beer/ spirits which in the end is why we visit such establishments. Don't go there with 20 bucks as you will leave thirsty my 'friends'

This joint has a fun vibe. I don't usually make it out to Point Richmond, but I was just about to leave for Asia for 3.5 months and my dad suggested this as a dinner place to go before I left. I had the filet special with shrimp. While the dish wasn't mind blowing or genre redefining, the steak was cooked to my liking and was quite enjoyable. I'd like to come back here for a burger and some brews. Quite noisy, but just the same, a great place to come watch sports.

Quick Byte(s): + : the beer selection is excellent. + : parking is not too bad - : depending upon how busy it is , you might get the worst or maybe no service. - : the food is mediocre at best - : people who work there are understaffed, and when you need service you get a fake smile, fake answer, and get to wait for the next waitress that hopefully passes by. The Longer Version: My girlfriend and I came on a busy Friday night. pretty jumpin on the inside! We were asked to wait 20 minutes which is not a problem, and was told we could get a drink . We were thirsty and wanted a beer. noone asked us what we wanted, haha. So we finally sit down and have to wait another 20 minutes for our first beer. Unacceptable. Ordered a fried prawn appetizer. This was ok, but mediocre at best. especially with the puddles of oil surrounding them. Ordered the minced lamb shepherd's pie, my gf liked the pie. i thought it was a mess. Ordered the canneloni with ricotta cheese. i needed to put salt, pepper on it. still gross. i added ketchup and tobasco, made it worse. this was the topper though for me, as I looked around for 5-10 minutes for someone to help us get a box to take our crappy food home I just gave up and went to the kitchen and saw this huge guy look at me like wtf are you doing here. So I looked at him like I want a mother f-----g box to take my crappy food home and finally get my check. bottom line: great beer, mediocre food, horrendous service. will not ever go back. I would not recommend up and under pub unless you like a bunch of ditzy waitresses, bone-headed rugby waiters and God awful food.

Jill, the bartender, is rude and wants to close early all the time! The bar will be full and everyone is drinking and talking and having fun, and she'll say, 'Last Call!' Wow! Really? It's 11pm! I thought maybe that's what the rules are, and she's just following them. I asked another bartender working there if the owners or managers tell Jill to close early? 'No,' she told me. 'It's just Jill. She doesn't want to work.' Enough said.

We have been to this place 4 times now.... and they are SOOOO good. They have a Rugby themed pub, and with the whole sports themed atmosphere you would think this would be your typical bar food - fish and chips, beer. No. This food is amazing good. These are not "bugers"... they are BURGERS (said in low humina-humina voice). I do not know how to properly describe food. Just that everything we have ordered, different types of burgers, the salad, the fish, and OH MY GOD the desserts..... are scrumptious. The pricing is somewhere around $11-$18 depending on what you are ordering and DO NOT LEAVE without ordering a dessert (about $8 and worth every penny, though my husband and I usually share one). We can personally attest to the sinful nature of the carmel dessert, and the chocolate brownie dessert. have it. I believe they also have kareoke nights occassionally. The atmosphere is relaxed. Some cool Rugby themed decor on the walls. We have gone twice by ourselves and then twice introduced others to this place and then THEY became fans. Enjoy.

The beer selection is pretty good and not badly priced, its the food that's overpriced $16 Sheperd pie about the size of a tart is a bit overpriced for comfort food. Their burger are pretty good but starting at $12.95 and being charged $3 more to sub the fries out for salad or soup is a bit much not to mention the $.75 grilled onions your looking at a $17 burger with a small cup a soup. We ordered as a appetizers fries topped with cheese and peppers, they gave a shallow bowl of fries with minimal cheese, less than what you would get from a MacDonald med fries for $5.95 Small potions all around. Don't Come bungry

Well, they use the ice in your drink where they chill the beer, can you say disgusting. Fish tacos tasted like butt, all we could taste was spices. Soonest we laid the fork down the owner ask if we are still working on our plates. Some of the bartenders are full of themselves. Charged us for drinks we didn't even have.

Bartenders and wait-staff are nice. We come here often, so they know us pretty well. They have a good happy hour, 3-6, and a nice beer selection. Since this is just a few blocks down from where we live, we go down at least once a month. There has recently been a change in the kitchen staff -- we could tell when we went there a few days ago. The food is greasier and messier than it has been since we moved into the neighborhood in August. Garlic fries are great, and I always order the full-back chicken sandwich. Football games are fun to watch here, especially if you're from Wisconsin. Go Packers!

I was here on a Sunday and even though there were a lot of people inside, I could still hear the people I was with talking! I love it when I can hear the people I'm with. So many bars & restaurants get insanely noisy because of the rooms acoustics, so this is a huge plus for me. The interior is neat too. The ceiling has bronze colored tin on it with old fashioned feel, love it. Reminds me of the old school buildings from SF. Good vibe, descent prices, and overall a nice play to go hang with friends :)

Food was pretty good the tarter sauce tasted like nothing but dill and mayo, and menu was a bit pricy. The service was ok but defiantly a pub... Apparently someone made the bathroom stink witch a waitress announced quite loudly... Other then that it was ok.

Food was great and any place that has food and one of my favorite IPA's is alrgiht by me :)

A bit of a disappointment. The calamari was about 6 pieces in total. Where they out? I has the Beef Wellington and the taste was terrible. When the waitress came to pick up our plates she ask if I wanted to take the rest home. I said NO. The wait staff is slow and distracted. They seem busy doing something else. I'm not sure what it is. I'll give them another chance but it will be awhile.

How could I have missed this place? Eating lunch on Sunday in Point Richmond was an extremely frustrating endeavour, but not any more. Basically, we are in Pt. Richmond every Sunday during the "non-windy" part of the year, while our son participates in the Richmond Yacht Club Jr. Sailing program. 2 years ago, we decided that we should not "hover" around our kid, especially at lunch. Today, we decided to try the Up & Under Pub & Grill. We have seriously been missing out on some exceptional lunch food. When we arrived, there was a huge private party in the bar area, so we went to the back dining room that had 6 tables (and since it was a gorgeous day, outside dining as well). The bar is really focused on rugby (lots of rugby jerseys & posters) and there was a game on one of the tvs (I guess it was live since there were some rugby fans at another table intently watching). The food, it was tasty. In spite of the private party, lunch was delivered in a timely manner. I had the crab cakes, which I thought was just one, but turned out to be 3 slider sizes (I'm really glad I ordered it without the buns...new diet & all). The fries were tasty (I really shouldn't have eaten them, but couldn't resist). My husband said the burger was good. I'm looking forward to trying other items on the menu in the future, especially some of those appetizers.

GO FOR BEER, EAT ELSEWHERE. i've tried their food 3 times & each time it was not worth the price....it drove me to drink. i don't eat meat, this might be the problem. no one knows how to cut vegetables!?!? the eggplant on the vegi sandwich was so thinly sliced it was like paper & THE JALAPENOS WERE THE SIZE OF 3 QUARTERS STACKED. so i really had a bread sandwich with peppers! the cactus strips were swimming in a pool of deep-fryer grease (resulting in upset stomach for 2 days) & the music is so loud out on the patio/sidewalk, my friend & i couldn't talk to each other....we just stared at the grease goo.

My boyfriend and I went there last night for dinner. Food is OK, a little bland for my taste, no presentation on food whatsoever (my boyfriend's fillet Mignon was just placed on a plate, drizzled with sauce and served with fries on the side, reminds me of the food prep in a school's cafeteria) plus, food is a bit pricey. However, the staff are really nice and accommodating. 4 stars mainly because; 1. it's so close to where I live, 2. one of the guy staff has a really good choice on what music to play in the jukebox, 3. very good beer selection and of course, 4. The place is just chill. Overall: Place is good to grab something to drink and to feast on appetizers. Bad if you are planning to dine in. Yup, 4 stars should suffice. PS No designated parking space that I am aware of. We parked at the side street. It was late night Sunday so there weren't that much cars parked around the Pub. I am not too sure however if you plan on coming in to the pub during lunch or breakfast.

Oh snaps! They fixed all my complaints! Better and faster service! Now choose between french fries or cole slaw at no extra charge! Happy hour starting soon! Burger still the Bomb! Right on, bald rugby owner dude! A great place to watch sports games!

Usually I would give this place 5 stars... but last week I took a friend there for dinner and they undercooked her steak severely, AND her mashed potato tasted like crap. OK, I understand mistakes happen, but considering that was all that was on her plate, AND they admitted the potato was bad and that the kitchen then threw the potful away, I think they should have either offered her something else or given her a discount on the price of the meal. They didn't do either, and when I suggested perhaps offering her something else, I was told by the waiter that he was not allowed to do that! Really? I'm in the customer service industry, and I would have jumped to offer her something else. I was a bit embarressed that I'd recommended we eat there. I hope the owner reads this and re-considered his policies. I do like your pub, and want to continue bringing guests there. :-)

As a Point Richmond resident, I really want this place to be the *perfect* local neighborhood joint. It's almost there, and I think with a few tweaks it could be. 1. This place serves a great selection of delicious beers. The wait staff then, ought to know the beer menu inside and out, don't ya think? When I asked ours what type of beers the 3 "bartender's selection" drafts were, she didn't know, said she could check but seemed like it would be a bit of an inconvenience to her. I just picked one and was not at all disappointed, it was a great beer, but it's nice to know what you're ordering rather than closing your eyes and pointing your finger at random. 2. The bugers are solid. Super delicious. I've been there 4 times now and have always had at least a bite of a burger and everytime it's been great. The onion rings are great. The ranch dressing puts all other ranch dressings to shame (I'm not one of those ranch-on-everything people, but this stuff could make me a convert). The salads are fresh and interesting and super green. 3. Other items however, are a bit less consistent. The fish and chips is really great, but one time I had it the fried batter on the fish tasted like the grease needed to be changed. It wasn't horrible; just had that taste of old oil (not spoiled, just not fresh). The fries are the super skinny kind and are really tasty, but one time I had them and they were a little undercooked. As others have commented, overall the prices are just a smidge high, but I think one only feels that they've overpaid for something when they're not entirely satisfied with it. If the Up and Under could make some relatively minor adjustments, educate the waitstaff a little better, and take a little more care with the food they dish up, I doubt anyone would complain about the prices. Overall, the place is great, I just want them to and believe they can be even better.

In the neighborhood for the Yelp's Sunset Showdown event, with some time to kill... Bust out the ole iPhone-- Yelp-- Nearby bars-- Up and Under... 2 miles, 4 stars, Guinness... Sold! Walk in, the guy behind the bar who is wearing a shirt that reads "What do you like with your hooker?" says "I haven't seen you guys before, you from around here" Haha! Ok, I dig this place! Guinness on tap, full bar, friendly staff (even to us strangers), great spot to kill a few pints if you're in Richmond! I hear their hookers are pretty awesome too!

This place is just plain good times! Go to watch the game, sip some drinks and eat GOOD food. I go here at least once a week. We always get calamari, Caesar salad and entrees. I LOVE the eight man (Philly cheesesteak) with chicken and melts provolone side of skinny crispy fries. Yum!

  • Andrew C.

Got the The Eight Man - "Steak or chicken Philly with all the fixings (mushrooms, onions, peppers and your choice of cheese)" which comes with fries for $8.95. I chose provolone cheese It wasn't what I would call a traditional "Philly" since the steak wasn't thinly sliced and the roll was firmer than the traditional Amoroso roll, but it was a pretty good steak sandwich nonetheless. Nice chunks of medium rare steak and a generous helping of the different toppings. I wasn't expecting the sliced hot peppers, but they added a nice kick and helped me get my sweat on! The fries were of the thin shoe-string variety with a sprinkle of chopped parsley. A small bowl with ketchup came only 1/4 filled which seemed to be a mistake. Everyone (including me) was asking for more. Jason, the bartender, was super friendly and kept my ice tea topped off throughout my meal without my having to ask.

Strolled over here after the chocolate and beer festival at the craneway pavilion. I ordered the pulled pork and my bf tried the challenge. He almost got it!! we have 4 other people in our group and everyone was happy with their food. Will definitely go back when we are in the area.

I waffled between giving this place a two or three star rating. I ended up going with a three star because the food and drinks were decent. Not the best ever, but still good. This place has character, but I wasn't personally all that impressed with the ambience. Bonus points for the ALL BLACKS flag on the wall. :)

This place scores to me at 4.44 which is only not a 5 because the service is not -perfect. It is a bar and it is busy. Come here to unwind and a have a great time and way beyond pub food fare. You will not be disappointed. There are two ways in to the Up and Under Pub and Grill. From the corner it is directly in to the Pub and from the street directly in to the Grill. The joint was really busy for a rainy and windy Thursday at noon in Point Richmond. My buddy and I were welcomed in to the Bar immediately and seated graciously on the elevated corner table. Service: 3.5 Stars. Very friendly, but confused and not too quick. Neither waitress figured out who had the table, each doubled back on the other throughout the time that we were there. The servers did not apparently communicate all that well with the wait staff. However they were all very pleasant. If you are trying to get in and out this will be a challenge. We were not in a hurry and just felt somewhat neglected at times. Value: 5 Stars. Guinness is reasonably priced and well pulled. The soup bowl was all you could want and the sandwiches were bountiful. Great value for the money. Noise: 4 Stars. We ate in the bar which while loud has enough stuff on the ceiling and walls to absorb the noise so it is possible to carry on a conversation. Restroom: 5 Stars. Clean, fresh and everything you could ever want in a pub. Big surprise. Decor and Theme: 4.5 Stars. Did I say Rugby is the theme? If you do not like Rugby it is OK, you will be bored but at least it is consistent. I played in intramural Rugby at Cal and the traditions are all well represented. Clam Chowder: 4 Stars. Did I say restaurant made? Really tasty, great potatoes and lots of clams. Nice zip to it. Very tasty. A tiny bit thin in texture, I would have preferred thicker which is the only thing that keeps it out of the five range. I Steak Sandwich: 4.5 Stars. Perfectly cooked, well aged, tasty and did not pull apart the sandwich. Fries were the perfect mix of hot, crisp, tender and moist. Mussels and Angel Hair Pasta with Chilli Infusion Special. I had preselected the 3/4 pound burger with bacon, grilled onions and blue cheese, which is my all time favorite and a gold standard in my mind. I was really set on this until the special came up. I am a sucker for mussels. Usually mussels are poorly managed, overcooked with the pasta and loose their wonderful texture of softness and brininess which makes them so good. Toss your preconceptions aside. The mussels were incredible. Way more than I expected. Angel hair was al dente and the white sauce with chilli and bits of hot sausage was impeccable. Really remarkable for a pub. Way off my scale so it earns a 5 as a dish. The quantity was perfect for a big guy like me and it was really memorable. I will keep coming back here until I get through the whole menu. Did I mention that it is also a fun place and clearly very popular. We got there at about 12:30 on a Thursday and it was full and just got fuller. I suspect that this is a really great place for dinner/bar/fun.

My girlfriend and I have come here perhaps 5 times, and we always sit at the same comfortable table. But better than their fresh ahi tuna which they receive everyday is their customer service. My girlfriend asked for a certain tuna dish and they brought a different one. Once they realized my girlfriend wanted a different tuna dish, they replaced it with an apologetic attitude. The supervisor and manager both came and apologized and checked up on how we were doing. We felt pretty good the whole time, conversing with the staff and cracking jokes. The Food is great, as even some of the worst reviews here will admit. Check it out!

Over 100 reviews, I typically won't bother BUT after what I learned last night, I couldn't resist sharing. Since The Up & Under opened around the corner from my work, I have frequented them for lunches and Tuesday night trivia on a regular basis and I had no clue there was a dessert menu... let alone one with heavenly tasting food. I happen to be in a dessert for dinner mood while joining friends for trivia last night and asked if they served dessert... WOW it's a separate menu (which they should seriously incorporate into the regular menu or at least put it at every table). Variety is not its strong suit but item numero uno: "Deep Fried Cheesecake"! HOLY CHEESECAKE ITS HEAVEN IN YOUR MOUTH! The best way I can describe it is a hot churro with warm gooey cheesecake goodness inside. My mouth waters just thinking about it. I'm a huge dessert fan and suffice it to say, I'd go out of my way to have this again. But if it is ever sold out when I get there... I'm deleting this post and never telling another soul how absolutely amazing it is! So there you go, as if the Up & Under's food, beer, and pub quiz wasn't enough to get you to go there... the Deep Fried Cheesecake should pull you in!

I can't say enough great things about this place. I was planning a small birthday party (8 people) and ordered food from the catering menu for pick up. Jill organized it for me, made great suggestions, and the price was very reasonable. Then our plans went awry, I was unable to make the pick up, some of our guests never came to our party...long story short we went to the pub and finally picked up the food 5 hours late. I was the customer from Hell. And what did Jill at Up and Under do? She took every call from me as I repeatedly phoned to keep changing the pick-up time (we were out on a boat). She was gracious and welcoming when we finally got to the pub, even had a table reserved for us. The food was great, we ate there and boxed the rest up. Big thank you to Jill and Up and Under, we love you guys!

Another Friday night at a pub for the me & the girlfriend. We stayed close to home this time & went back to the Up & Under. It's been pretty crowded the last few times we've dropped by this place, but we got lucky & scored a couple seats at the bar. Burgers & beers were the order for the day. The last time I had a burger here it was The Inside Center (which is a 3/4lb stuffed burger)/ The Crash (stuffed with blue cheese, bacon, caramelized onions). This burger was seriously so good, it's hard to even consider anything else. Even so, the other stuffed burger on the menu, The Loop (stuffed with roasted pepper, mushroom & Jack cheese plus topped avocado), looked quite enticing. Fortunately, the girlfriend wanted to get The Crash & suggested I get The Loop & we could both have half of each. Sheer genius. The Loop was an amazing burger with big flavor. The Crash was still just as amazing as last time. Both in the same meal was decadent bordering on the obscene. Split Crash/ Loop burger washed down with pints of Guinness & Smithwick's is a fabulous combo for Friday evening after work. On a final note, I already really liked the decor here & then I saw what must be the coolest restroom light fixture anywhere. It's a custom chrome wheel & tire base with the lamp hanging down attached by a crushed Heineken can. Check the pic, it's pretty sweet.

Huge fan of this place! My boyfriend and I went on a bike ride to point Richmond and he suggested this pub. Has a wonderful european pub feel which there is not a lot of around Oakland so I really enjoyed it. We ordered the fried artichoke hearts which were served with a horseradish sauce, mindblowing! We ended up sharing a Turkey sandwich as well, also really great. They have $3.50 (i think) pints on Sundays which is an awesome deal. We got 2 pints and then the server gave us another pint free as they poured one wrong for another customer so she asked if we would like it. We both left with full bellies and enjoyed a couple beers and our total check was $30! Crazy good deal. Totally worth the 15 mile bike ride, will be back ASAP!

The first time I came here for a late dinner I thought the place WAS great! They had a band playing and the food was ok. However, I went back 3 times and never got the same services I did the first time. The food was not good at ALL. The last time I was there my husband and 8 where enjoying a glass of wine and this guy who I believe is the manager or owner came out of no where took our plates which we were not done eating. He was trying to make room for a karaoke system, so basically he was telling us to leave. Will not be going back!

The Up & Under is Down & Out! Wow, what a disappointment!!! I've been wanting to try this place for as long as I can remember. Finally got the chance to do that last weekend and now I feel the need to never go back there again. We went on a Saturday around 5, it wasn't very crowded and we got seated right away. It took our waitress about 10 minutes to come over and give us menus and at which time she took our drink order, then it took her another 15 minutes to bring our drinks, which were a coke and water, by the way. What the hell was taking this chic so long??? We FINALLY got to order and then it took our food over 30 minutes to come out after that. So now we've been there an hour by the time we get our food. Ugh!! I had the center field burger, which was just okay, Very plain and flavorless. The french fries looked and tasted just like McDonalds, only McDonalds are better. A very sub par meal to say the least. Our waitress never came back to check on us, and after we were done eating, it took her another 30 minutes to bring us our check!!! It felt like all we did at this place was wait around and then wait some more!! And it wasn't even crowded!! Unbelievable!! She was one of the worst waitresses I've ever seen! When she finally brought our check I told her I wanted to buy one of their t-shirts that say "I had the Hooker" ( which is a burger they have there) Yes, the shirt appealed to my warped sense of humor! Anyway, I asked what sizes did they have in womens? Of course she didnt know, she said let me ask my manager who just happened to be walking by and the manager said very unapologetically, "We dont have anymore womens sizes left" and she turned and walked away. Really?? Not, sorry we are going to be ordering some more, or some should be coming in soon, nothing. Zero customer service. So between the bad service, the below average food and the incompetent management, no need to ever come back here again.

Always fun. Great pub with happy vibe. The beer selection is always fantastic and interesting. I like their sandwiches and the great burgers. They have a fantastic fresh tuna sandwich to die for. They have good above average bar food and they are open all day. I also have to say that we always had good service and helpful recommendations. It can be crowded on week ends but is part of the fun.

I've been a few times now with my husband. We are new to the area. the service has been excellent and the burgers are awesome. We had are anniversary at another restaurant and left hungry and angry at the awful service and ended up at the up and up . They totally took care of us and totally turned our night around. The manger was thoughtful and professional and our waitress was too. We will be back!

Never will be a official replacement to a pub in London, pretty darn close! Just came to pick up some sides, and got greeted three times by separate workers. Love the customer service, clam chowder tasty, salad is awesome! Should have asked for a thinner vinaigrette though.

Wonderful ambiance! Try the chicken wings, they are absolutely amazing, and for all my fellow Berkeley alums, they have a Cal corner decorated with University of California, Berkeley paraphernalia...GO Bears! Above all! Great food, and great service, and a awesome place to watch a sporting event on the flat screen :) Just for F.Y.I, this Pub is located in "Point Richmond", not Richmond!

At this point, I wish i could give places zero stars, but since I can't, The up and Under gets one single star. it is VERY rare that I try a place for a third time after they have done wrong by my standards the two times prior. With that being said tonight (5/28), my boyfriend and I came BACK to The Up and Under because tonight, all I really wanted was a fat burger after having a bunch of mimosas this morning with my boyfriend. .So, we came tonight on our burger conquest because neither of us felt like driving anywhere, and terra firma is just up "the hill". Got seated, and ordered "The Outside Center", i think the name of it is. it's their basic burger. I asked for it done medium well, and I asked for bacon on it also. Strike one: the burger comes out and I dive into it and notice that it's VERY pink in the middle. It's cooked medium rare. Normally, I would pass this factor and just eat the burger, but it was too raw for me. Strike two: There was no bacon on the burger at all!@ After we alerted our server that there was no bacon on the burger (and that I didn't want another on), a busser/kitchen help/whatever guy came out from the woodworks. He proceeded to tell us that there was, indeed, bacon on the burger...and that it wass underneath the cheese. i checked. twice. No bacon. I decided that I was officially done with my meal at this point and wanted nothing more to do with this place, as stated before this was my third time here with awful service. Shortly after, a woman came out (in some sort of managerial position) and talked to me about what happened and comped us a dessert...which tasted funny. I've officially given up on this place, without a doubt. Tonight definitely solidified that.

Great burgers, but make sure you tell the wait person "light spice." I'm from SoCal originally, so hot food I'm used to but I had to order two beers just to get thru a burger one time (maybe that's the plan).

As fan of the All Blacks, I totally approve of this place for sufficient sport memorabilia alone. (It seriously made me want to add more to my paltry collection.) We rolled in for some karaoke and drinks and had one of the best times with the coolest parents known to man. Our host asked that we make a special shout out to our bartender Ben, who, when not serenading us beautifully, made sure we were not left thirsty or lonely. Supremely fantastic scene for a fun evening out with friends, strangers, and other carbon based life forms.

I am a novice kayaker and stopped by here for dinner before the Eskimo rolling session (every Thursday 7-9) at the Richmond Plunge. I had a 20 oz Newcastle draught for $4.00 and a Philly cheese( beef) sandwich and fries. The beer and food were delivered promptly. The sandwich was oozing with Provolone cheese and peppers. The fries had some green specs (parsley?) and other mild spices in it, nice change from the typical bar food version. Anyway, the dinner provided me with the energy to do the kayak rolls for two hours. Say, this could be great place for a post-rolling session beer with the nice BASK (Bay Area Sea Kayakers) folks I met at the pool.

"These pretzels are making me thirsty." In a word... Promising. Neat little pub, taking standard pub grub up a notch or two. Dark wood furnishings & bar w/ a old school copper ceiling, very cool. Saturday 4pm, 5 folks at the bar, 3 other tables - 2 w/ kids (we've got the 6yr old with us). It's our 1st visit, so I thought we'd get there early, in case the rugby pub crowd is a feisty one, but no issue there. Yellow Card - I spy a bar menu on the table and they had several signature cocktails - I was fully prepared to stick to pints, but hey, I'm game and we went with a Manhattan and some gin elderberry concoction. Should've stuck with the pints and later we found out why our cocktails were, ummm, terrible. Knock On - Ordered up a medium burger, stuffed w/ blu cheese, caramelized onions & bacon. It came juicy, but well done - no pink in sight, if there was bacon I missed it, YET it was a class burger and I look forward to trying it again. I got the cole slaw (meh...) w/ the burger, as I heard about the Scalloped Potatoes and shared an order w/ the table - EXCELLENT. The fries w/ the kid's fish & chips were sub-par, but the fish & tartar sauce were GREAT (yeah I had a lil'bite) nice thick hunk o'fish cooked perfectly. The mustard pork chop was flavorful, but a bit too done/dry. As we were settling the bill, we over hear the "bartender" mention she was actually a waitress, but they threw her behind the bar - just our luck! No wonder... There's enough there to warrant a 2nd peek to hopefully add a star - I'd love to... they just need to tweak a few things. Better fries, a pub needs SOLID fries. If you offer signature cocktails, they better be good & consistent. We'll try it again for sure!

This place is a bit like TGIFridays or Hooters in the sense that it's theme-driven. The pub and grill's theme is rugby. The entrees are named after positions on the team, plays, formations and other jargon that sounds oh-so-dirty. For instance, there is a sandwich called the Hooker. And it can come with optional bacon. Thus, it would be appropriate to say "I like my hookers with bacon." I got the flank sandwich here. I thought it was going to be a steak sandwich, as in flank steak slices piled onto my bread. Turns out it was a WHOLE flank steak, uncut, making warm thoughts with the onions and blue cheese. Luckily my dental work was still going strong that night. The sandwich tasted fine. The steak was tender and I asked for it rare. I'm surprised because usually some gristle or sinewy thing gets stuck between my teeth and I spend the rest of the night trying to floss the effing thing out. The fries were delicious. Thin shoestrings with liberal amounts of salt. Could have been hotter though. Lately, I've been having trouble with my appetite and eating. Aging is not easy on the body. We shared the fried mozzarella appetizer. While fried cheese always has a special place in my heart, lots of fried cheese has a more prime location in my heart's real estate. This appetizer came with about 6 pieces. For $7. I couldn't help comparing it to Pinetti in Union Square and the happy hour fried cheese. Oh Pinetti, I was wrong to ever doubt you. I was wrong to ever think I could find anything to replace you. The ambiance was nice. This is not located in a densely populated top tier city and it was a Monday night. I saw a few boobs. I left my hat here which the bartender graciously saved from certain death until my friend could swing by to pick it up. I love that hat.

I used to friggin LOVE this place... was there ALL the time enjoying the food and the drinks/karaoke/atmosphere. The owner always kinda bugged me with his "Holy-er than thou" attitude but I always brushed it off- even when I heard him being disrespectful and making a comment aimed towards me like I wasn't in ear-shot... I've experienced worse tho living in Richmond and have developed thick skin over the years. (lucky HIM) The service was usually good and the food was at times over seasoned but still better than my own! The night that killed it for me was a Saturday... I could tell that there was somewhat of a lover's quarrel going on between the bald headed dude on the wait staff and the bartender. (nothing against the bartender tho SHE WAS THE SH*T and always acknowledged the mister and I and gave us quick service!) The bald headed dude, however, was always kind of an ass but that night in particular was a real P.O.S... I caught him staring at me a couple times with that come hither look but; 1) I WAS THERE WITH MY HUSBAND and 2) Im not THAT chick- not even wtih all the booze in the world! Every time I noticed it I acted as if he wasn't even there until finally he decided to walk past me and BUMP into me from behind- enough to give me a jolt. When I looked back to see who it was I was met with another one of those cheesy looks and not even an "excuse me" or "Im sorry." At this point I was just trying to finish my drink as fast as possible and get me and my hubby out of there. (He would have gone APE-SH*T on that clown and I didnt want him to spend the night in jail!) Right as we were settling the bill bald-headed-waiter snuck up behind me and growled (grrrrrrrrrrrr) and blew in my ear!!!!! WTF! I got us out of there and didnt tell the hubby until we were home to avoid confrontation. Havent been back since tho which is a shame because it was super close to home and different from the rest of the places in my area. Lesson; One bad apple can spoil the entire place! Who knows- maybe he'll get fired for doing the same sh*t to another customer and I can eventually go back... if not for this experience it would have received 4 if not 5 stars- and I used to go once or twice a week atleast.

We (my husband and I) love this place! Just about everything we have had here has been really good. A few weeks ago they had an heirloom tomato sandwich as a special and it was AMAZING. I could go on The Best Thing I Ever Ate on Food Network and talk about that sandwich, it was that good! The scalloped potatoes are incredible and so are the meat pies when they have them. They seem to always have really good specials. I decided that I am going to try something new every time I go and so far I haven't been disappointed. The staff is very friendly and the service is good. We have a 3 year old and a baby and the Up & Under is extremely kid friendly. We always sit in the back near the juke box and our son loves putting on music and dancing. It's so nice to have a fun place to go have a few drinks, good food and feel like you are out at a bar, but still can bring the kids.

If i could give 0 Stars after my meal today i would. Let me preface my review by first stating that i have eaten at this restaurant about 5 times, and i have had drinks here about 10+ times. Drinking at the bar with friends I would rate at 3 stars. Today a coworker and i decided to come here for lunch due to March madness. So we take a seat at the bar, we are greeted by a friendly bartender, and served 2 glasses of water. After a few minutes we put in our orders, and here is where things go wrong. We put in our orders around 11:20. I ordered something called the 8 man, which is basically a Philly cheese steak sandwich. Having not eaten breakfast i was keeping an eager eye on the clock and my stomach was about ready to eat itself when 11:50 rolled around right along with our food. Great! Finally our hot food is here. So i dig right into the fries, take a bite out of the sandwich...... wait a minute, what the hell is this? Not my Philly cheese steak sandwich. I look over at my coworker, who had the exact same expression of surprise on his face when his order of a Reuben was replaced with something that contained Tuna. At this point the bartender alerts us "Wait wait wait! ... oh Shit" he had served the wrong plates to the wrong people at the table. At this point i fully expect him to say something along the lines of "I am so sorry guys, i gave you the wrong plates, let me get another order started right away." Nope this is exactly the opposite of what happened. The bartender addresses the 4 of us with orders that had been misplaced and he says, "Ok guys so how are we going to deal with this in a REASONABLE fashion?".... What the hell dude? What the fuck kind of answer are you looking for? "Uh yea dude I'll go ahead and eat the sandwich that i ordered that now has a bite out of it from a random stranger because you made a mistake, no problem!" *Sigh* So according to the bar tender "Who had the Reuben, this guy only had 1 fry, so are you ok with just taking it?... Just 1 fry dude" To which my coworker hesitantly accepted the plate with probably 50% of the fries missing. At which point he looks at me and asks again, "So what do you want to do?" To which i responded "I want my original order, but I'm starving do you mind if i get an order of fries or something while i wait for my sandwich?" Passive aggressively the bartender scrapes the rest of the fries onto another plate and serves them to me with ketchup. So as i wait for my sandwich to come out my coworker finishes off his Reuben, and finally out comes my order at 12:10. A hot Philly cheese steak sandwich, but NO fries came out with it of course! They already served me the fries earlier remember? It would be dumb to send out an additional serving of fries after messing up an order and taking an hour to serve someone their meal. Whatever.... Finally comes the check, the bill is there in full, no discount, no apology, and after our order was messed up, absolutely no attention from the bartender other than when my coworker yelled for the check. I hate limiting my options in Point Richmond, but this is one place i will never order food again. Cliff Notes: -Slow service -Poor customer service -Passive aggressive -Poor food quality -Good beer / bar

I'm giving this a 5 because I regularly attend their Pub Trivia on Tuesdays, HOWEVER, the service is EXTREMELY inconsistent. At their peak, this place is amazing. Their various sandwiches, particularly the blackened full back, fly half and winger (and the prop, which is now unfortunately deceased), are very good, on a good day. On a bad day, everything could go wrong. You could get fries instead of salad, undercooked something, a forgotten order or extra items added to your bill, your credit card could be charged twice, or you could end up waiting an hour for your food (with people who ordered AFTER you getting their food almost immediately, also pointing towards inconsistency)---all of these things have happened multiple times. Oh, and their daily specials tend to be sneakily $$$$. Another small gripe is that their menus are very outdated, as some items have been removed, but are still present on the menu (stop taunting me with that prop!) That said, we still go back week after week, which is why this place deserves a 5. The waitresses are generally very friendly and accommodating and will always fix any kitchen or bill mishap with a smile. Nathan and David are very friendly as well. It's a nice environment to enjoy a beer, food and trivia. Give it a try, and hope for a good day.

I first used them to cater a company event in December, and then came here for my daughter's 18th birthday. Firstly, I love their catering services, as Nikki, Nate and their team really work with you on options. They are super flexible on the menu, so if you want to customize something from the menu, all you have to do is say so. Dining here is a great experience, too. The neighborhood feel means that there is a warm, welcoming feel from the regulars and from the staff. Favorite menu picks include the Line Outs, the sliders and the poke (that's pronounced "poke-ee" not like what you do to your friends on Facebook). So happy to have come across this rugby inspired pub in little ole Point Richmond.

I was raised in a home where the television had to be OFF during dinner and if I was watching television I was NOT allowed to play the radio or any additional perfunctionary noise maker and if we had guests the television was off entirely as was the radio, record player, tape recorder, cd player, Atari, commodore 64, Nintendo , Sega etc. etc. and if we dined out as a family, we ate at restaurants that had dining rooms, NEVER and I mean NEVER did you sit at a bar or at a place that offered backless chairs... So as an adult when mom and dad said, let's meet up for dinner of course I decided the most suitable place would be a Pub for Rugby aficionados In short mom was unhappy from minute 1 and complained to the adorable, patient and kind waitress about ...the noise ....the smell of "bar" .....the "unsuitable" cocktail glasses ......the dimness of the Pub What she could not complain about however was the following: -the food, as it was delicious and reasonably priced -the cocktails, as they were creative and strong -the service, as they were attentive and ridiculously patient Will I return here? Yes, mom not so much.

Another place I wanted to check out after hearing such good things... If I knew anything about rugby, this would probably be my default watering hole, but as a restaurant, there were some issues. The waitresses, although I loved their shirts, were impersonal. And it was so cold inside that I had to go out to the car to get a jacket. Also, the table (toadstool) that they sat me at was seriously too small. My sandwich, The Prop, was as good as advertised. The ciabatta buns are an awesome touch. I opted for the fries, which were good, as the sandwich came with cole slaw (the other side option). What strikes me is that I paid $16 (after tip) for a sandwich and fries. I had water. This was way too expensive, especially for Richmond...

My husband brought me here after I had my gallbladder removed last week, because I was whining about being hungry. He's been here a few times and really liked it. Totally wished I was not in so much pain. The place looked nice and the food looked good. Too bad we had to ask for it to go since I was becoming delirious from the pain. I plan on going back when I can walk more than a block in under an hour and do it without passing out. I shall return!!!

Hello there ... although I passed from this mortal coil in a room above the Up & Under I can still be heard late at night or early in the morning drawing away in an upstairs closet. Although I no longer am able to eat, the aromas of the wonderful food wafts upstairs and I so envy those that can still enjoy the earthly delights of the downstairs cuisine. Oh, the longing! So if you hear me in the twilight hours clanking upstairs be not afraid ... I only wish I could eat some of that delicious food. I am the ghost of Joel Beck!

Am I missing something, Point Richmond?? I liked the decor, nice priced drafts and the fries; that's what the 2 stars are for. Fish and chips: 1 piece was good but the other tasted like cod liver oil. The cole slaw was SO bland, we had to pour malt vinegar on it to make it palatable. The portion sizes are big but the plates (the actual plates) were not. Every time I cut into my fish, something else went whizzing off the tiny plate onto the table and floor. I might give it another chance just to try the lasagna-sized scalloped potatoes at the table next to me.

This could be one of my favorite spots...at least in my top 5. I'm bummed that I have no reason to head over to Point Richmond anymore, EXCEPT for Up & Under Pub & Grill! HIGHLY recommend the Lineouts and the MVP. Every employee there has been amazing. it's a great crowd and great food. I've even sat outside with a dog that I was dog sitting. No joke - i'd drive from San Francisco to Richmond to hit this spot again!

recently my entire mom's side of the family were in town (Jan 8th) and we wanted a fun and enjoyable meal for everyone. After looking at a laundry list of places that were good for 4 generations of family, the Up and Under seemed like the best choice. Having read the reviews, everyone was super excited to taste the wonderful menu (at least on paper) and hang out in a Rugby locale! after looking over the menu i personally decided on the Half-Time(Sausage Platter- Bavarian Bratwurst, British Banger, Hot Italian, Habanero Cheese, Kielbasa. Served with Plum, Dijon & Grain Mustard- $11.95.......This was 8 1/2 inch slices of dried rubber and dipping sauces that tasted watered down and stale. so then i ordered Offside-Rugby Poke- Raw Ahi Tuna, Avocado, Green Onions and Jalapenos with a Soy Ginger Sauce. Served with Crispy Wonton Chips - $7.95...the tuna was fresh but I couldnt taste it thru the GOBS of raw ginger that was chopped so finely i couldnt pick it out. I couldnt even taste the sea of cilantro that was mixed in because the ginger was so over powering. needless to say i was starving and dissapointed by the food. My niece who is 4 had ordered off the kids menu...the Chicken fingers and fries. The chicken fingers came out RAW in the middle. yes RAW... who serves raw chicken let alone to a child!???? They corrected the problem quickly which was the saving grace, but shouldnt have been an issue to begin with! Everyone else (14 others) ate their food with grumbles. My grandfather orders coffee with every meal. The did not bring it out to him until after EVERYONE was finished eating after we repeatedly asked for it sooner. The coffee was HORRIBLE!!! He couldnt drink it, and so several of us tasted it as well... i had that burnt dirt flavor in my mouth for at least an hour after and 4 pieces of Orbitz mint gum! the reason i gave this place 2 stars instead of 1 is for two reasons. 1. my friends uncle owns the building and she raves about the place. 2. the owner Nate listened to my 90 year old grandfather rant about the food and how even in the pits of northern ireland during world war 2 he had better coffee for a good 5 min, before i pulled him away. Nate joked that they prided themselves on horrible coffee and great beers!

Atmosphere is good but unfortunately they swapped out Harp for Stella. Harp beer is the reason why we can here. Also FYI harp is bottled by Guiness so you would think they would have light Irish beer available. Please bring Harp back!

Good variety of beer and grog. Pub food okay, but there are some interesting sides. Food pricey, booze prices good. Bartenders very good and this is an interesting locale. Owner hands on, it appears. Good group of people. Great ceiling.

We were in town for a 49ers game in Oct. Our good friend brought us here cause he know that I coach Rugby and my Wife plays on the team. Great Rugby bar, awesome decorations we do not get to see in So-CAl much. Service was great. We do not drink, yes I know Rugby players that dont drink lol, but the food was awesome. I know this will be a stop for us every year we come up for the NIners.

08.23.13 with 1 other very friendly staff, we arrived around 630 on a Friday night, and it was busy, the host told us we had to wait our turn, so we went to the bar and got us a drink. She came to check up on us and told us how much longer we had to wait. that was a plus, we only waited about 15 minutes for a table. With drinks already, we first ordered the calamari, it was okay, not as crispy as i would like and a little bit on the oily side but still tasty. We hung out, it was hard to hear each other, as it got super loud, with drunk singer and music going, but it was all in fun. i ordered the pull pork BBQ sandwich, it was tasty, the meat was good, but for me the bread was a lot for the amount of meat. the fries that it came with was soggy as i like my fries crispy. but everyone has their preferences. my friend ordered the pork chop that came with mashed potato, and grilled veggies. it looked good. overall, very friendly service, and host. the food is good, i would defiantly go back and try their other menu items.

5 stars for ambiance. Had I known, I would have worn my New Zealand All Blacks shirt. This is a rugby bar, no doubt about it. It was crowded at lunchtime and pleasantly noisy. There's a long bar w/ TV sets tuned to rugby games. The furniture is wooden and substantial. The ceiling looks like pressed copper but probably isn't. It's a good look regardless. 5 stars for friendliness. We were greeted warmly when we arrived and when we left. Alan arrived first and scored us a table. I arrived late because I thought I knew where the place was and I didn't. I parked by the fire station, walked around it to the right about a block and stared at the building on the opposite corner in disbelief because it wasn't the pub. I was *sure* I had seen it on that corner. I walked back to the car, turned left rather than right, made a U turn over the railroad tracks and saw the pub, so I parked again. Dang! There were several sandwiches and other dishes on the menu and several specials. I decided on the prime rib sandwich special. It came w/ fries. Alan had fish and chips. I ordered iced tea and Alan had water. My sandwich was a good sized slice of prime rib on a roll that was substantial w/o being too heavy. It was full of sliced red and yellow bell peppers and sauteed onions and also had cheese. It was good but there was too much stuff in it for me. The fries were good, but I lost interest once they cooled a bit. Alan gave me a couple of bites of his fish and it was very good. The iced tea was flavored and I didn't like it. I should have asked before I ordered it, not after. It's called Apple Tree and is available through 7 Up. Nasty stuff. 1 star for the iced tea. Between 3 and 4 stars for my sandwich. It was good and the ingredients were good, but I wouldn't have it again. It may have been described to Alan before I arrived but he just said it was a prime rib sandwich, so I was imagining something simpler. Not their fault. I should have asked for details rather than assuming. We will definitely return, whether for lunch or dinner, and will try more of what's on the menu. Not being late and rushed I'll be able to peruse the menu more thoroughly. I understand they made great corned beef, but that was around St Patrick's Day; it's not regularly offered. I also want to see what the bar has to offer.

This was my third experience here. The first was a crowded Friday last summer when the music series was on and it was OK. The second was a not so busy Saturday when there was a protest going on the food was good but the service was not. This last time was a Friday again when the music series was on. My friend and I could have eaten at any of the other restaurants. I chose the Up & Under because I have followed them on Facebook and I was sympathetic to their money issues from Bottlerock. So we chose to sit outside. A waitress came up and took our drink orders. I ordered hot tea, my friend ordered a diet coke. A waiter came and wanted to take our drink orders. We told him we had already given them to the waitress. The waitress returned with a cup on a saucer with teabags and told me that the water wasn't very hot and that she was making some more. I stuck my finger in the cup and it was lukewarm. I wondered why in the heck she even brought it to me - I mean why not wait until it was ready? The waiter came back and brought me hot water. We were not quite ready to order and my friend had to ask again for her diet coke. When we ordered, my friend got what were described as spicy hot chicken wings. I ordered a salad that had cranberries and feta. Our food was delivered by a runner. My friend ended up with what would be described on any other menu as buffalo chicken wings. Why not call them that? She doesn't like buffalo chicken wings because of the vinegar. I was delivered a Cesar salad. I was starving. I walked inside and told the first person I found that looked like they worked there that I received the wrong salad. Mistakes happen, but the waiter came out and tried to imply that that was what I had ordered. I did enjoy my salad when I received the one I had ordered. I don't think I will go back unless they improve the service. I mean there was no offer of water and no offer of bread. Isn't that just an industry standard? There is just something wrong with the service. I don't know.

Place has good selection of beer and food. Been here a few times. Service from my last visit was horrible. I have alot of tattoos! I also wear baskebtall shorts and baseball caps. Pretty sure the waitress was stereotyping me, thinking I wasnt going to tip well. She didnt bother to even offer me "decent" service. Pretty horrible experience and wont ever come back to this establishment. I tipped waitress 0 dollars. But tipped the bus boy 20 dollars because he was outstanding. Brought me the correct drinks, gave refills, brought ketchup and mustard, and did so with a smile on his face.

The chef's name, Miguel Milan, belongs front and center. He's brilliant I've been to the Up & Under Pub and Grill four times in the past week and on each visit I think 'this is the best xxx I've had in my life' The corned beef and cabbage plate moved it into the destination restaurant category. Drive over from Berkeley or Oakland. Pay the bridge toll from Marin. It is almost at the foot of the bridge. Yes, even make the trip from SF. The three slabs of corned beef (10 oz) were fork-tender with just the right amount of fat. It was flavorful and not salty. It is the best corned beef I've ever had anywhere, including the best NYC delis. This is corned beef that was given loving attention and shown respect. The chunks of slow-roasted carrots had slightly caramelized. There was a chiffonade of cabbage sautéed in brown butter on top. A delicious potato cake in the shape of a shamrock was on the side. There was soft, potato comfort inside, with a crunchy exterior. It was splashed with green sauce for added flair. From this day forward, whenever I am served the usual bland dish of corned beef and cabbage, tears will well up in my eyes in memory of Chef Milan's extraordinary version. On other visits I've had: Oyster, clam and shrimp po'boy was the special on Thursday. It is the best I've ever had. It should be their signature dish and not just a special. More than an inch of seafood coated in a great beer batter rested on the perfect slaw which did what slaw should always do for fried food, cut the richness. The lightly toasted Maggioni's roll held the substantial contents without flaw and didn't fall apart as a lesser roll might have. No slaw or seafood fell out of it. This is the first item from that baker that I ever really liked. Cut in half, each half was massive and could have easily fed two, but I scarfed down every last magically delicious bite. It was served next to a mound of the best fries. Period. They looked like McDonald's fries but not greasy, just potato perfection. All this wonderfulness was $8.95. It was a stunning price for not only the quality, but the quantity. The Richmond prick is crispy beer-battered cactus with chipotle aioli Delicious wide strips of nopales were served with an aioli so good, I scraped the remainder out of the bowl. Lightly dressed greens were also on the plate. My friend had the chili and the chicken sandwich. I had a taste of the chili and it was very good. The chicken sandwich was also substantial and looked terrific. My friend said it was good. The creamy, thick clam chowder was very good, a slight variation on the classic, but this New England native liked it. My friend really liked it. It had some melted cheddar in it and that worked really well The tasty fish had a light-as-air, crisp, greaseless coating. The two long filets of moist, perfectly cooked white fish came with excellent dilled tartar sauce. The classic burger is without a doubt the best burger in the Bay Area. It is everything i want in a burger - charbroiled, the medium a perfect medium. There is a choice of four cheeses. I went with cheddar which was great. The bun was absolute perfection. No stinking sourdough roll. No clueless artisan bun falling apart. It was bun classic and great. It was ever so gently toasted on the inside and may have had a light brush of butter. A slice of red onion, lettuce and two tomato slices were on the side. It was served with a perfect dill pickle spear. It comes with the fabulous fries, but I've been heavy on the fast food, so i asked for green salad with blue cheese dressing which was very good. This is a great pub atmosphere with a long copper bar. One booth that had carved eagles. There is a lovely copper ceiling with rugby shirts strung along the walls. An internet jukebox is on one wall and a few TV's are scattered on the ceiling. Colorful paintings of Point Richmond brighten a back wall. At the table next to us, a group was playing cards. On our first visit, a friendly, upbeat server, Megan, did a super job. She was like someone central casting would pick as the ideal pub worker right down to her name. She steered us to some good eats and helped make the whole experience fun. Too stuffed for dessert but glancing at the menu, I asked Megan to recommend a dessert for next time. She said the seasonal fruit crisp was great and so was the "Sin Bin", s'mores with vanilla ice cream The only off night was Sunday. The bartender was not only the most upleasant server I've had in my life, but one of the most unpleasant people ever. if you are unlucky enough to encounter her, the food makes up for it. There is a bright, shining star in that kitchen.

May not the 'Richmond, CA' fool you. First and foremost, I know I am not the only one who will hear a mention of 'Richmond, CA' and shutter, BUT be clear that the 'Point' in front of 'Richmond' makes all the difference, trust me! My lesson here is, "don't knock a place, 'til you've been there in flesh", you'll miss out on way too much if you do. Up & Under couldn't be placed in a more perfect location-- everything seemed to have been centered around it! Nikki (co-owner) of Up & Under arranged for a small get-together for a pre-reveal grand opening, exclusive to her fabulous fashion school mob (this includes, yours truly, and our privileged +1s). We were the guinea pigs (happily so), and have had the pleasure of tasting (pigging out on) several of the menu items! Let me just say, the food was so savory...the Filet Mignon and the stuffed chicken was absolutely amazing!! I don't think I've ever had a stuffed chicken that flavorful in my life-- it's definitely a must-try that will keep you going back for more. Let's talk APPETIZERS. If you want to... ...be adventurous & want something new, I highly recommend the "Richmond Prick"-- beer battered cactus! I was hesitant to try this, but it was actually pretty damn good! ...something simple & classy, you can't go wrong with "The Maul"-- bruschetta. I Love Love Loved their bruschetta! Last but not least, (since I am so BIG on desserts), don't miss out on their apple crisp! It will seal the deal for you, I promise! When you enter into the pub, you instantly feel all warm and fuzzy--quite the oxymoron, considering you're surrounded by testosterone-esque rugby gear & memorabilia (it is a rugby pub after all). The rustic feel, and every detail of the pub was unique with character! I LOVED it! Nate (the owner) & Nikki are the most animated, hilarious, down-to-earth couple I've ever met-- You'll love them, just as much as you'll love the pub! I'm definitely going back-- watch me!!

Update 2/17/10 Was contacted via email by Nikki one of the owners, who was disappointed that I did not have a stellar time (my impression is they do want to us to be happy with our visits to their pub. Please note that you can let the owners know if something is not to your satisfaction and they will be happy to change the order for you. This is good to know! thanks Nikki for emailing, I will have to come back to try again. 2/15/10 Sometimes you can ask for too much. Got the small salad and while that was a better serving size than the large I felt that they gave me the large salad dressing serving. My lettuce was drowning in dressing. I had the Scrum which was the battered and fried prawns which was good, no complaints there...The server waxed lyrical about the apple crisp and since I had saved room, I happily ordered it. Well dear reader it was perhaps better described as an apple soggy. The topping was clearly over worked and smooshed into the individual tart pan and baked to an even dough like consistency. I was very disappointed. The volume was very high and it was a very busy happening place with at least 2 large screen tv's. Go with an open mind and you'll be happily surprised.

YUM! Can't believe I haven't tried this place before. BEST Fish and Chips I've had in the Bay area. Super good quality fish and big pieces. Very lightly breaded so they are crispy but not too greasy or heavy. I was so happy with my dinner. The fries are yummy too. The coleslaw was fresh and plentiful but a bit flavorless. The atmosphere was friendly and inviting. We just got a table - I guess we landed on the popular Trivia night and had a blast. Good and reasonably priced beer. Great food. Nice pub atmosphere. I will definitely go back - probably often.

I've been to the Up & Under about 5 times now and every time I leave stuffed and happy :-) The food is delicious (and the portions are generous), the beer selection is great and I LOVE that it is rugby themed! There aren't enough rugger friendly places in the Bay Area and I'm so glad we have the Up & Under to call home!! The wait staff have always been courteous and the owner is AWESOME. I would highly recommend it to friends, family and any visiting rugby teams :-)

It's a pub. It's a grill. It's a Pub AND a Grill. So get this... In the same place where they have wine and beer and a full bar, they have great food. It's not a big place, but there are several places to be, with different ambience, including outdoors. It's not a pretty place, but the servers more than make up for that! Nate is the boss and he is always paying attention and making the right moves. Like with his choice of beers on tap. Try the Smithwicks! The food is pub grub on steroids and DO NOT sleep on the specials, which can often elevate the place, and your plate, right out of pub grub status. It does get crowded, especially Tuesday nights or for sports events. But that's what great places do. and the U&U is a great place. I'm going to go there right now! I like my hookers with bacon...

I myself, would not open a rugby-themed bar. But Nathan Triver, the restaurant owner, and the building owner have come together to do a proper build out for this place, and its as good as you could expect from any sports themed bar. Attractive - they have obviously spent some money here. The menu is well-planned and well-priced, and the food is well made. The burgers are great. Also sandwiches, and some 15 entrees, that I will probably never order. I did get some soggy fries last time I ate there. Service is friendly and young. The waiter had never heard of Otis Redding. Well, who cares. Recently, I met a friend for lunch there, and it was full! Here's the thing: it proves that YOU CAN open a successful restaurant in the Point if you get the menu, pricing and ambience right.

After 2 weeks of being disappointed by overcooked burgers, I finally find a place that got it right... AND it was a stuffed burger! My wife and I were in the area working and decided we needed 'hair of the dog'. For as much as I enjoyed this place, I could have easily given it 3 stars and not the 4 given. The waitress, at first, seemed to be void of emotion (almost bordering on the rude side) and didn't seem to pay attention to my wife's initial drink order and ended up giving her a Mimosa instead of a regular glass of Champagne. I stuck with a Bloody Mary. We decided to have Scrums as our appetizer. Scrums are Beer Battered Tiger Prawns with Aioli & Cocktail Sauce and they were very good. The batter was perfect, nice and fluffy and doughy. My wife had The Full Back - Grilled Chicken with Thick Cut Bacon, Roasted Tomatoes, Peppers & Jack Cheese. Served with a Chipotle Aioli on an Herb Focaccia Bun. She had no complaints at all. I had The Crash - 3/4 lb. Burger Stuffed with Bleu Cheese, Bacon & Caramelized Onion on a Ciabatta Bun with Aioli. I had this without the Caramelized Onions... I'm just not a fan of them. The burger was cooked Medium Rare... SCORE! The burger had the right amount of cheese and bacon and was enormous. In order to share, my wife ordered fries with hers and I ordered coleslaw. The fries were good, but the coleslaw was completely bland. It could have used a bit of vinegar or lemon juice for some acidity. We'll be back for sure.

Dropped in for lunch with co-workers and was very impressed with the amount of work that has obviously gone into redoing this place. The interior is very nice. Seems like a great place to grab a drink after work or watch a game. Everyone enjoyed their food and we all found the french fries very tasty. Our lunch did take a little longer than we anticipated. The service wasn't slow, it would have been just right for a leisurely meal, but just took a little longer than desired for those poor working saps trying to take a reasonable lunch hour.

The last two times I went to the restraunt I tried their specials. One time it was fish tacos with aioli sauce (YUM!) and today it was scallops with some type of mushroom with bacon and a tomato/vinegarry dressing. Both 'Specials" were scrumptious. The portions were just right and didn't give me after-lunch-doledrums. I look forward to going again ! The staff is great, the service is prompt , the bathrooms are clean and ample game-watching TV.

Been here for casual drinks with friends enjoying a local bar with local people. Unfortunately, the food is not great and a bit over prices especially the wings. Really! Recently, I took my two kids to join me for dinner and it was so bad they did not eat the french fries. Wow! Kids turning down french fries??? In addition, I asked the waitress for extra lemons for my ice tea and after 5minutes nothing, 10 minutes nada...where did she go? How about asking how's the food? My son wanted a refill in order to wash down the bun as the pull pork sandwich with cole slaw was awful. The cole slaw too salty and wilted and the pork had no flavor and my daughter's clam chowder was watery. The calamari was rubbery and the fries...well I think they hurt the roof of my mouth, way too crispy for me or the kids. We left the restaurant because it was so bad. We had the opportunity to speak to the waitress and the chef but they didn't care. All I wanted to do was to pay for my drinks and leave...I waited 15 minutes so I left payment for my drinks and left. The waitress saw me leave as I let her know I paid for the drinks and she said nothing and just shrugged her shoulders. So disappointed as it is a very nice local pub and has so much potential to be great. Although the place is full then I suggest to just stick to the burgers and beer but I rather make a special trip elsewhere were the staff and the chef demonstrate some genuine care in customer service and in the food they service.

Up and Under has quickly become my favorite pub. After moving to Richmond the boyfriend and I were looking around for good places to eat and drink and I stumbled upon this place through Yelp. I was immediately intrigued by the Richmond Prick, beer-battered cactus with chipotle aioli, and made it my mission to try it. We finally made it down one night after I worked a late double shift, but the kitchen was closed (they close at 10) so we just had drinks. Their beer selection is excellent. They have many beers on tap as well as bottled beers, from well-known and local breweries alike. They also have a cider on tap which I love. Their drink prices are very reasonable, and on Sunday's they do $3.75 pints, which we just recently found out. Anyways, next time we came I got to try the Richmond Prick and it was everything I dreamed it would be. So delicious, and something interesting and different. I love it and have had it a few times since! Everything I've eaten here so far has been really good, and everything I haven't yet tried looks delicious too. The Hooker (an "adult grilled cheese sandwich") with added bacon is one of my favorites, and the bacon clam chowder is excellent as well. The atmosphere is pretty relaxed, and staff and patrons alike are always friendly. Point Richmond is super cute and parking is usually not a problem! Love this place!

We get takeout all the time- filet mignon, sliders and grilled asparagus are great. Too noisy to enjoy dinner at the restaurant. But takeout is great- quick, friendly and food is always great.

What a find! I was meeting a friend who lives in Point Richmond and he suggested the 'U and U' as a meeting place, and what a great idea. We each had the fish and chips (both of us are Brits) and any joint that serves halibut as its fish is all right by me. The 'chips' were a bit small and I could have used a few more of them, but that's a detail. The wine list was acceptable and the wines (by the glass) reasonably priced. The menu is highly imaginative--any place that can describe a dish called the 'Richmond Prick' obviously has a sense of humour, and our waitress, Jill, said that this was the definition of unsatisfactory men by the local women who frequent the joint. Speaking of waitresses, Jill is as good as they get. Attentive, good natured and a thoughtful, capable server. If a good server is worth his or her weight in gold, and estimating Jill's weight at around 110 pounds, she is worth, at the current $900/ounce price of gold, about $1.584m. It's in my other pants pocket.

Fantastic pub grub (delish!) and a really fun, family friendly environment! They have Trivia night on Tuesday's (make sure you call to get a reservation - the tables fill up quickly) and always great music (sometimes live or DJ or Karaoke).... and my favorite is the bright and shiny bell over the end of the bar.... ring it - see what happens! (make sure you have a pocket full of cash!). The owners Nathan and Nikki and the top-notch team have this business down to a science - despite their long hours, they always greet you with a smile. And don't be shocked if you are asked "do you like your hooker with bacon?"

Up and Under is exactly what Pt Richmond needed. I've been living in the area for three years now and would often settle on going to Salutes or Hotel Mac when I wanted a casual drink on a Friday or Saturday night. While I love these places, they're not the jeans, beer, and a basketball game type places that I love. Plus, I'm tired of dropping $20 on a meal while I'm there. Enter Up and Under. Their food is good and affordable. The people (waitstaff), while new at what they do, are trying hard and will only get better. The drinks are no more expensive than any other place in the area, and I'm excited to try one of their concotions listed on the drink menu: absinthe and root beer (they hadn't received their supply of absinthe last I went there). As for food, I always get the veggie sandwich with roasted peppers and gouda. I don't eat red meat, so I'm ecstatic that they didn't do the traditional veggie burger. My husband is a fan of the burger and fries, so I guess you can't go wrong there. We've also tried the cactus, which is a little too greasy for my taste, as well as the cheesy bread, which you can't go wrong when you add cheese to bread. Needless to say, I highly reccommend Up and Under when you want a laid back drink with friends, a good affordable meal, or just want to watch a game with other sports fans.

Don't let the 3 stars scare you. This place is pretty good. I just find the small menu a turn off and the rugby theme cute but confusing. Otherwise, they place is definitely a breath of fresh air in Richmond. Never did I think I'd WILLINGLY go to dinner in Richmond. Nice feel on the inside. Quality foods. Friendly staff. I might not be the hugest fan, but I'll definitely recommend this place to friends.

We were in the area taking a break from Six flags. Found the place on yelp thought we would give it a chance. After the drive over, we were skeptical at what could be in the area. Finally found the place. The outside was really cute everyone inside was getting ready for game 4, we got there about 4pm so time to eat before it got too busy. Had the bacon wrapped asparagus and was pleasantly surprised. We asked the server to pick dinner since we wanted to share and couldnt decide between the Rob and the pork chop dish. The chicken was stuffed with gouda, bacon and onions in a mushroom sauce. It was really good, my only complaint would be he selected asparagus (note we'd just had asparagus) I wish he'd picked a starch maybe mashed potatoes or something. Had GUINNESS ans Smithwicks on draft and both obviously fresh and on special for 2.75 a pint, nice treat! Server recommended the rolled ice cream or salted caramel crumble. We went for the crumble and I'm not sorry about that. It was so so good, but could have been warmer. All in all 45 bux for an app, 3 beers, dinner and dessert wasn't bad and the atmosphere was friendly and inviting. If I'm ever in the area again I will be back. Thanks for the great break and food :)

A really clever idea for a restaurant with average food and gigantinormous proportions. I really like the concept of rugby analogies and cleverly named items on the menu after a sport that a lot of people don't know too much about. The atmosphere is super swanky. Really dark, old style ceilings (which are awesome by the way) and a full fledged bar with a bunch of beer on tap. There are TVs everywhere with all kinds of sporting events airing. The menu is pretty standard when it comes to what it actually is (not the cool names). I had the Full Back which is a SUPER HUGE chicken club sandwich with literally thick cut bacon and tons of cheese. The fries are delicious! And yes, I judge a place by its fries. The food is tasty but seriously super large in size. Try splitting it if you're appetite is not that big. Had to pass on the dessert this time but I'm sure that it's also status quo. Overall 3.5 for great atmosphere for a fun night with your friends and food that won't wow you but also won't make you sick.

Great place to have a pint and some pub fare. The rugby theme is really cool. I lived in London for a while and when I'm missing a gastropub experience, this is the spot for me.

I stopped in here for lunch and was pleasantly surprised. It is a cute bar on the inside with a California style of menu. I had the seared ahi sandwich and fries which were very tasty. The tuna was cooked perfectly and the bun was toasted and came with a scrumptious aioli. (I'm a sucker for aioli.) The service was decent but I don't know that I would come here if I only had 1/2 hour for lunch. The lighting on the inside is low and there are plenty of TVs to catch a game on. Decent for lunch and will be back.

This is a great sign for all of us rugby fans, players and supporters (in addition to being a good place for locals to spend a minute or ten at on a fine evening for a quiet one). This is a sign Rugby is making it's way further into the American Lifestyle, which is important for the sport to thrive here in the US. The Up & Under is a "pub" created by someone that played (and still plays) the sport - who mixed authentic American Rugby with good food, great era design and in a fitting neighborhood in Point Richmond . This place has a solid menu and their ahi was fresh - always a good sign in my book. I was able to go there with the person that introduced me to the sport over 16 years ago when he said "You need to play rugby. You'd make a great hooker" moments after I walked off the field losing a "big" high school football game. It's old rugby people people like Travis that contributed to the mementos on that walls that give the place personality. Nicely done! He's got jerseys on the wall and pictures all over the place in the bar from his playing days in the 1920's err 70's & 80's. Speaking of the 1920's, rugby is making its way to the Olympics in 2016. The US won the last gold medal 1924 when Rugby was last in the Olympic games. You can see a really old picture of the Gold Medal Team from Paris on the wall across from the bar at the Up & Under. Legit. So.....stop off in Point Richmond and tell them Travis sent you and you want to play rugby because he told you that you'd make a great "hooker". Haha! Sorry, had to write a lot, but that's why I gave it 5 stars. If you are not someone who is interested seeing & learning something "new" or a rugby person, you might give this place a solid 4 stars. The only suggestion I have - serve a Shepard's Pie because it sort of goes hand in hand with the sport and the sensibility of the pub. Plus it's a classic and I'm sure a good number of our funny talking friends would love them if done well!

We visited this "pub" yesterday and despite the English decor this "pub" falls far short of the mark mate. We ordered some "Irish car bombs" (your basic boilmaker) using Guiness and dropping a shot of Jamision into to it. We we shocked that this "pub" did not have a bloody shot glass and they served us a half of a pint of Guiness!! We had to dump the shot (it was in a smaller glass)in the half filled pint glass....very cheap for the bloody prices that they charged. The service was as bad as the food with us having to get the bartenders attention just to get the server to come to our table...this place was mostly empty for a Saturday afternoon (the bar was empty). In one instance a customer at the bar heard our attempts to summon the wait staff and summoned them for us. The decor was all about rugby and things that are English but nowhere on the menu was there anything close to what Brits would call pub grub. There was one other table with paying customers at it and they shared the same frustrations we had with the wait staff. This must be the only watering hole in town because they really act like they do not want to provide customer service at all. One other reviewer orderd the "half time plate" of "bavarian and banger sausages"....let me tell you the sausage was from Hillshire Farms at Safeway and again for the price these folks should be taken to the Tower of London mate

Decided to do a mini-splurge half way through a bike ride and check Up & Under out. We live nearby and had been curious. The day was so gorgeous and the outside seating looked so inviting, it seemed like the right time. I had the Fly Half ahi sandwich, without bread, with a half Home Turf salad instead of the fries. My wife had the Home Turf salad as well, and the "Offside" tuna poke. Everything was delish. The only minuses were a) that my ahi was a bit on the dry side, but not too bad, especially since the fish was fresh and the cajun rub they used on it was really tasty. We liked the poke so much we whipped up our own version last night! Not cheap, but not expensive either...more reasonable than a LOT of Bay Area eateries. We certainly felt like we got our money's worth Hands down the best new restaurant experience we've had in Point Richmond, and near the top of the list regardless of location. Can't wait until I lose 40 pounds so I can try their fish & chips!

Stopped by this place with some friends last night, kids in tow. I was starving -- ordered the NY steak (nice, thick cut) with a side of scalloped potatoes. Steak was cooked perfectly, the potatoes were a wee bit firmer than my taste, but were delicious. Also ordered a large salad that was tasty, but the size seemed a little small. My son had the mini hamburgers which looked awesome. He ate them happily and really enjoyed the fries. I was impressed with the decor of the place, it felt very comfortable. I felt like the prices were reasonable especially considering what high quality the food was. We will definitely be going back.

I really, really wanted to like this place after reading about it for a while, and because I sometimes have a craving for good pub grub. Sadly, my one visit doesn't give me enough hope that it will improve on a repeat visit. Too many strikes against. Service was fine. Our server was friendly, highly pregnant, knew the nightly specials, etc. No real problem there. But the food: very, very mediocre. We had a fish and chips (its cutesy rugby menu name has escaped me), several on-tap beers, and a Philly cheesesteak-type sandwich (with chicken). First big negative were the fries: skinny, seemingly frozen-from-a-bag variety, served lukewarm (urgh). Second was the fish: I'm not sure what fish it was, specifically, but it was lacking in flavor, not at all resembling the fresh fish and chips I have had at, say, Circus Pub in Kensington. Breading was likewise very bland, and the entire portion was well over-fried to the point of the coating being dark brown and hard as a rock. Cheesteak-like item was skimpy on the portion size and skimpy on the flavor; menu claimed it had some sort of sweet peppers on it... it's a cheesesteak, for god's sake... but if they were there, they were hardly in abundance. Price? Wow, way too much on the fish and chips... something like $13 or $14. Cheesesteak was a more reasonable $9-ish, but just far too small and lifeless. (Add those lifeless fries in, and you really have a disappointing plate.) Oh... and someone needs to tell the bar how to set the aspect ratio of their TV correctly so that sports figures don't look like skinny sticks. But that's not as important as how lackluster the food was. Unfortunate.

Went there tonight for my sons 11th birthday. My aunt had personally stopped by the restaurant earlier in the day to make a reservation. She specifically told them she was coming in for her great nephews birthday. Our table wasn't ready when we got there, but they got us seated pretty quickly. The food was ok, nothing very special, the chips were the best part of my fish and chips and my husband said his burger was dry and over cooked. When we ordered a desert for my son I and asked if they could please bring a candle....many, many minutes passed. Our bill was even brought to the table...Finally a server, not our waitress brought out the desert...without a candle. I said "we asked for a candle," she replied "sorry we don't have any candles but happy birthday anyway." I immediately asked for the desert to be taken to go. On the way out the door I told our waitress, not the server who delivered the desert, that if she had told me that there were no candles we would have skipped it and gone elsewhere for desert. She didn't have much of reaction. The owner was standing by the exit and I told him the same thing. He was a complete jerk and said something along the lines of "we ran out of candles, these things happen." But not that nice. If he'd have offered to comp us the desert which was gross and melted by the time we got home or at least not been rude, I wouldn't be pissed off writing into Yelp. I will never consider going back to the Up and Under, rugby rudeness needs to stay on the rugby field. If you want to go to a pub, go to The Kensington Circus Pub in Kensington instead. The food is much better and I know the owner there would have seen to a candle for a child's birthday desert.

Stopped in for a pint and a burger, but ended up ordering the Eight man philly steak sando. De-lish. The steak was perfectly cooked and not all grisly, which I can't stand. Nate, the owner, sat us quickly and our service was fantastic. The decor is AWESOME, and anywhere you site tells a little rugby story. I will be making my way back there very soon, very many times. A great addition to the Point. Would definitley recommend to friends looking for a fun, low-key neighborhood pub (that is clean!)

Wonderful place for food and drinks at the bar. Come with friends or alone to catch up with the locals. Tip for all guys- girls who can hang like bars like this for fun, but we don't enjoy being stuck watching sports while we are forced to watch you eat while you yuck it up with everyone else. If only there was a bar where men would be forced to watch the real housewives marathon on every single tv screen and the decor was all pastel. I can dream.

We met the owner, Nathan... very cool guy. The drinks were great, the food was even better. We will visit again. The fried cactus was good, but you need to know that cactus has a unique texture. For dinner, we all had sandwiches of some sort, and I had the 8-man with steak... OH MAN, it was amazing. It may have also helped that we had amazing company enjoying dinner with us.

The Up & Under was an awesome place. Growing up in Richmond, there are not a lot of options for a watering hole or a pub. I grew up in Richmond which is not as friendly as Point Richmond. I work in the industry so I am not going to drop my two cents on the quality of the food. I can tell you the menu options are good, beer selection is great. None of the Big 3 American beers on tap is a great thing. Fair enough selection of liquor and liqueurs. Nikki and Nathan are very nice. If you stop by I suggest you sit at the bar stools. Come hungry and have a couple of drinks. You will not be disappointed.

This Pub is a rugby themed pub. I feel like I am in Europe lost in a night of fun. The acoustics are gr8 and you dont have to yell at you dinner buddy either. Fast friendly service in a A++ You will find the food to be very good too. I Love the menu. All the dishes are named after rugby nomenclature. My favourite is the "Richmond Prick"- very good and I know a few too. I ate the "Rob" and had the scalloped potatoes. Being from Iowa, I thought the taters came right out of my moms kitchen, Boy were they good or what! Friday and Saturday nites are busy, Lunch there is a real breeze, so it's good for you white collar types. Gosh I think I just may go for a beer right now...

Honestly I cannot see how some people would give this place a 1 star. This place deserves 5 *s on all level. My husband and I have been going here since it opened. The food is great. The staff is nice and friendly. It is also kid friendly. What more can you ask for. I am definitley a fan. We stop by here whenever we go on our hike in Point Richmond. If I had to ding this place, it would have to be the seating in the back. I dont care for benches as I need some place to rest my back when I can.

They really did a terrific job on this place. They turned an old dive (and I mean that in the worst possible way) into a friendly neighborhood pub. The decor is great. The dark wood and copper ceiling are cozy but not too dark. The burger with blue cheese, bacon and carmelized onions *inside* the burger was out of this world. It was cooked perfectly and at 3/4 lb. it was enough to share. I haven't had a burger that good in a long time. The bruschetta was very good and very garlicky. The caesar salad was fine, but nothing to get excited about unless you are craving a caesar. Nathan and Nickie are the owners and are super nice and open to suggestions. I know this place will do well.

I liked the cozy interior - not quite kitschy but funky enough to lead X to say it reminded him of the kind of place Gordon Ramsay would go to in Kitchen Nightmares. Y could see it immediately - a once busy and enjoyable neighborhood pub slowly losing its clientele as the buzz wears off and the food never rises. But that's not the case here, not the Up & Under, not yet - the Up & Under is still fresh and everyone is happy to be there. X ordered the Drop Kicks and joked it was because mozzarella balls tasted better for some reason - well no, they do not. These breaded and fried mozzarella balls tasted like any other mozzarella sticks except they desperately needed salt. The house marinara was an okay dip, but for $6.95 you're better off saying no - and isn't it time for mozzarella sticks to go away forever? The Scrums for $8.95 - beer battered prawns served with aioli and cocktail sauce, is a better deal. The batter was a bit boring and there was something almost mushy about the final product - but the flesh of the prawns was crisp enough to remind you of freshness over impurity. In the progression it was a step ahead of the Drop Kicks. Was starting to expect everything to be a disappointment, so going for the $9.50 MVP just made sense. Two filet sliders with caramelized onions and bleu cheese? With a real slice of filet instead of ground beef? A disappointing kitchen will find a way to ruin that, right? Well, these sliders, a gimmick that suckers fall for every time, were damn tasty - hot, nice proportions of meat to bun to cheese. I probably would have been happy just stopping there, but encouraged, Y and I shared the Eight Man, which is called a steak or chicken Philly with all the fixings (mushrooms, onions, peppers, and your choice of cheese). First, it is no Philly cheesesteak, but it is a tasty steak sandwich with cheese. I chose provolone and nixed peppers until I was given a choice of hot peppers, which I jumped for. $8.95 with house fries? That's a hell of a deal, if you ask me. As to the service - there were a couple empty glasses waiting too long to be refilled, but it was overall good service from a blonde girl who kept the Guinness coming. It's not a place to be seen or to touch a live wire, but you can bring the family here and enjoy a solid meal and Point Richmond is one of the most underrated little towns in the bay area. Note to the natives - move that stop sign next to the bar or add one coming the other way - it's only a matter of heavier traffic before the accidents start.

Cute little restaurant in Point Richmond. We drove out here to meet some friends for dinner. I had never actually been to Point Richmond before. This place was very cute. Almost felt like I was back in New Zealand with all the rugby decor. The menu was definitely different, but very intriguing. We ordered the fried mozzarella balls, chicken wings and bacon wrapped asparagus for appetizers..YUM. and I ordered the soup of the day which was a vegetable tortilla soup, and fried prawns. The soup was amazing. It was spicy and full of veggies and seemed very healthy. The fried prawns for very delicious, and didn't seem very healthy. :P Others ordered the stuffed chicken and the fish and chips. No body had food left on their plate! Would like to come back and try out other dishes.

I highly recommend trying this spot out. I've worked in Pt. Richmond for almost 17 years now and I have to say, we needed a change. This place is definitely a good one! The beer is always ice cold and their food is amazing. I was personally shocked for it being a "Pub"..nevertheless, it's a must try. I eat there at least once a week and always impressed with each meal. I tried the eggplant sandwhich this week and it was Awesome!!!

The food quality is unfortunately declining and becoming inconsistent. I recently had an ahi sandwich which was overdone bits instead of the usual large rare sliced slab. The next time was better, although the bread isn't as good as it used to be. Last time there I had the stuffed blue cheese burger. I ordered medium rare and it was, but also completely charred on the outside. It was also very spicy, which is not how it has been done before or how it's described on the menu. In the past they've had some really good chefs and it's still a great menu, but the food is now hit or miss.

Okay so maybe I am missing something but my experience wasn't great. I didn't like the dark and dreary atmosphere for starters. The names of the menu items were strange and somewhat obsene. the food was so-so nothing great and the drink selection was small and terrible. The man who waited on us was a bit unfriendly and rushed. Overall not impressive and I won't be returning to this washed up place.

This place is always great for cocktails or beer, food is good too. Only downside is they don't have outdoor seating yet...its a little dark and don't eat here if ur on a diet. I hear outside seating is in the works and I think this place has a cheers feeling because of the smaller town.

When this place first opened, I loved it. I brought friends who were visiting the bay area and told coworkers to come by and eat here... not anymore. Somewhere along the line, something's gone terribly wrong here. I really want to like this food still, because I want all of our businesses here in the Point to succeed. Unfortunately, the last 7 to 8 times I've eaten here, there have been problems with the entire experience. Last night was the last time I gave it a shot, and I won't be returning. The wait staff was clearly preoccupied with cleaning and didn't pay much attention to customers' needs, the owner was sitting at the bar with friends, clearly not caring about the experience for the customers who were eating, the food was not prepared as it was stated on the menu... I ordered a stuffed burger called "the loop". (When the place first opened, this was my favorite item on the menu...) The burger this time, was cooked fairly well, but had hardly any of the listed ingredients stuffed inside, and came with no avocado, the fries were hot, but terribly greasy and under cooked as well. When I pointed out to the waitress that the burger lacked avocado as stated on the menu, she went to the kitchen and brought me a side of avocado, as I took a bite, I was appalled by a hard unripened rock in my mouth. I told the waitress that the avocado was not nearly ripe and she said "I know, that's why they didn't put it on". I couldn't understand why she wouldn't tell me that before I took a bite... needless to say... I didn't feel right not leaving a tip, so I left a very small one, but that will be my last. Unless there are major changes to the place, I don't see it lasting much longer.

I went here with the girls for lunch and we thoroughly enjoyed it all! The owner, Nathan, was so very nice and friendly. We got seated immediately and we all had delicious meals. I went on about how much I loved my lunch experience at this new restaurant in wonderful Point Richmond to my family that my daughter now wants to go here for her birthday in a couple of weeks....woo-hoo !!

The french fries are good, nicely refurbished, but just go for a beer, because the cocktails are weak. I ordered a Manhattan, the bartender didn't ask if I wanted it up or over, so I got it on the rocks. No biggie, and it tasted just OK. At least I could taste some bourbon... then I ordered the second cocktail Up and he had to ask me what I meant.... okayyyyy. Well, when I got the second cocktail, I couldn't taste any bourbon, and I have never had a manhattan that tastes like orange jiuce. My friend took a sip, and the bartender took a sip, and said he would add some more bourbon. He poured something into the glass and brought it back and it still tasted exactly the same! Are they watering down their hard liquor? I didn't feel even the slightest buzz when I left. SADDDDD.....

After the kinks get worked out, this will be a cool venue. Nice decor, with dark wood wainscotting and pub-like ambience. We went early for beers at 5:30, arriving before our party of 5 came at 6:30. The best two large tables were being reserved for parties that were to arrive at 7pm. That was really awkward, because that left many empty seats in a restaurant that was quickly filling up. First we got seated in the freezing "auxiliary room" with halogen lights blinding us. Then we floated midroom, waiting for a table to happen as our party arrived. Then got makeshift seating with our party at two different table elevations. Couldn't wait to see who the special 7 o'clockers were! Then huge groups of geezers doddered in, so I didn't hate on them so much. It is a pretty old crowd right now. I never knew so many retirees lived in P.R., but they were out in force. The beer was great, especially the fresh tasting Harp, and the food was also pretty good. Next time I'll be the one calling in a reservation, and I hope they figure out how to get two seatings into an evening!

WOW, if you love rugby, fan or player, this is the place to F@&king go too! The food is good, if you don't like pub food or are health nut, then keep walking to the vegan place next door! If you go at dinner they and you dine on swine, get the pork chop, it was friggin HUGE. Staff was friendly, drinks flowed steadily, all was right in the universe.

This place is what it is, a pub! And a damn good one at that! Friendly service, good food, and great beer!! What else can you ask for? The have a jukebox and soon to be outdoor seating, from what I hear. Dare I refer to the tv show Cheers? (Where everyone knows your name) This place will keep you coming back for more. Point Richmond is definitely making a come back with this establishment now opened!!

Loved the atmosphere and their signature drinks! I had the "hooker" (basically a gourmet grilled cheese). It was definitely better than mom's grilled cheese in flavor but still gave you that comfort food feeling. My hubby had a steak that was cooked as well as most steakhouses. I really was surprised at the quality and creativity of their "pub food" - definitely a little elevated. Our waitress was quick and enthusiastic. All in all I was so pleasantly surprised. If I lived closer I would definitely be a regular!

Went their on a frinday night at 6:30, Places was maybe 75% full. Still it took over 45 mins. for our food to arrive. And it arrived cold and not all at once.

Went last Sunday for a motorcycle ride with our friends and stopped in for the first time for lunch. The place was empty and the "hostess" was walking around with a baby on her hip obviously distracted and looking tired. The five of us ordered our food and one of us got their order. Waitress explained that she and the "hostess" confused our order so the other four meals were on the way. After quite a long time, we got our lunch (after our friend had already finished hers). My husband and I ordered the Mulli Grubber to share. Waitress told us there were two pieces of fish, but when we got the plate, only one piece of fish. Hostess with baby on her hip argued with us, and I said she should be talking to the waitress who told us. They ended up bringing us another piece of halibut which was tasty. The shrimp was overcooked and tough, the calamari was greasy, the fries were cold and soggy. I tasted my friend's garlic mashed potatoes and they were good. Was so disappointed after all the good reviews, the service was not impressive, and I feel ripped off since the bill was a lot for the five of us! I definitely won't be "liking" this place on facebook! I will go out of my way to go to The Mayflower Inn in San Rafael for yummy pub food and ambiance from now on. Plus their prices and service is so much better!

I've been here twice, both for lunch, and I'm in love with this place. The entire place is decked out with rugby memorabilia, from the jerseys on the walls right down to the rugby-termed menu. Although it's a pub and grill, you instantly get the sense that it's the neighborhood spot with the regulars that are seated at the bar who have a real comrade with the bartenders and waitresses as they catch up with each other instead of the typical bar regulars who are only there to nurse a beer. The food is tasty and decently priced, full plate meals average from $10-25, they also have a selection of soups, salads, pastas and sandwiches available. I have yet to visit this place at night, but I've heard it gets pretty crowded especially if a rugby match is on (which shouldn't be a surprise given the place's theme). Good for catching up with friends.

I really like this place. Tonight was our second time here and it was outstanding. The service is exceptional (except for a tendancy to interrupt conversations). The food is way better then you'd imagine coming from a bar. I had the stuffed, grilled chicken which was mouth watering. I had the prime rib last time which was just ok. They kind of ruined it with a complex sauce that the used (real beef lovers will be happy with au ju and horseradish). The place is very clean and nicely decorated. The ceiling is so cool. Check this place out, it's the latest reason to check out point Richmond.

Mediocre food, very, very, very slow service. Owner has a holier than thou attitude - not conducive to great customer service. Tried it 4 or 5 times - service was very, very slow. If you are thirsty plan on remaining so for 15 - 20 minutes or more after you arrive. You might get lucky and actually get a waitress who understands how tips work but 4 of the 5 times we visited, we didn't.

I am pretty sure I could give this place an extra star after a few more visits. We started with a standard Caesar salad. I have never tasted lettuce that sweet and crunchy. Don't know who your supplier is, but don't let them go. I had the chicken with Gouda cheese smothered in onions and mushrooms and some heavenly slurp worthy sauce. You get to choose your own side dish and after much fake deliberation, I chose the mashed potatoes which were yummy. My friend had the fish and chips and said they were quite tasty. Service was quick and friendly. The crowd was mixed and the vibe was "all were welcome". Dessert looked good, but I couldn't talk my pal into it. Even the coffee was better than I expected from a pub. It was dark and rich. We will be back!

My sister brought me here for lunch. Food was great and not pricey and atmosphere was very nice. I don't usually feel comfortable when eating out and I felt comfortable here. Definitely going back.

I have been here several times and always enjoy it. I met the owner playing rugby; hopefully you can meet him, he adds to the unique rugby atmosphere of the place. The food is great and priced well. Same goes for the beers.

For some reason the waiters in Pt Richmond are taught to NOT check in with customers and ask about the food. Ate at 3 different places this weekend and all the same. The grilled cheese was made using some kind of sub-sandwich type of bread, there was very little cheese in the middle and waay too butter. Wife had a Thai style salad that was spicy but devoid of peanuts. Average bar food.

I'm so happy this place opened! Way cool place to hang out and watch a game, and the food and beer is fantastic too. Since this place has opened it's one of my favorite hangouts. Great ambiance, feels quite authentic.

This place has exactly the right feel for a pub. The service is casual and friendly the atmosphere is warm and neighborhoody. Add to it great drinks and a good selection of draft beer and some very good sandwiches and burgers. Well It is the kind of place you want to linger in.

I recently started a contract in Point Richmond, and noticed there's not much around. Stumbling upon this location, I was immediately impressed by the beautiful bar, with copper plates in the ceiling, and a kitschy Rugby theme. I think I've tried just about everything on the menu, the food's great, and the price is right. Had a lamb burger special that blew my mind, probably the best burger I've had...maybe ever. If you saw my gut, you'd know that's saying something! If I lived in Point Richmond, I'd certainly be a regular. The place needs a dart board, a few more beers on draft, and the staff is a little green, but for the price of the food...well, you're getting a great value. Nathan is often around, and makes you feel welcome. Great place! A true hidden gem of the Bay Area.

Two stars for the decor, added to the quality of food & service equals...well, two stars total. Great venue, visually at least...lots of character in the interior, and as a rugby fan I enjoyed the theme...jerseys, posters, etc. But the food....pardon the horrible rugby pun, but it was not exactly SCRUMptious. The fish & chips were a huge disappointment. Two pieces of fish, each about the size of a newborn's hand. Shoestring french fries appearing in the role of "chips." I might expect Americanized, McDonald's-size fries at a Long John Silvers, but seriously...this is a rugby pub! English chips should be thick, like "steak fries." And guess what else? They should also be hot, or at least room temperature. And the slaw...what gives? This bland, unappealing mess accounted for HALF THE PLATE COVERAGE! Was this to distract me from the cold fries and small fry ("fish nuggets")? It was the same on wifey's plate...a half-pound of slaw, accompanied by a few overcooked calamari rings, three shrimps, and one piece of fish that was bigger than the combined two on my plate. Service was friendly enough, but slow...and our server had to be reminded three times to bring the second beer that was ordered. All in all, nice "Try"....but I hesitate to give this place any "Props." Yes, that's right, more rugby puns!

So we stumbled upon this pub just walking around. The brighly painted building and Grand Opening sign was very welcoming. We were expecting pub food but it had a much better menu than that. I ordered the duck tacos with mango salsa and it was good. I have never had them before so I can't compare to much. My husband got the prime rib and was very satisfied, especially with the HUGE portions. Places like this (pubs) have the high potential of being sticky, well used, and a strange stale alcohol smell in the air. But the Up and Under ,has a classy rugby theme goin on, which I also have never experienced but it was clean, with warm and interesting decorations. Finally, the service was FABULOUS!

I thought the food was good with a large selection of food. My favorite was "The eight man", which was the Philly cheese steak sandwich & would recommend that if you are a fan of the Philly. Great service & the waitress's are polite & do there job well.

Point Richmond has been waiting for a place like this. The food is tasty and the menu has a good variety. The owner is always there and you can tell he and his staff are committed to the restaurant's success. Scrums - Crispy Beer Battered Tiger Prawns with Aioli & Cocktail Sauce The Crash- 3/4 lb. Burger Stuffed with Bleu Cheese, Bacon & Caramelized Onion on a Ciabatta Bun with Aioli The Full Back- Grilled Chicken with Thick Cut Bacon, Roasted Tomatoes, Peppers & Jack Cheese. Served with a Chipotle Aioli on an Herb Focaccia Bun Richmond Prick-Crispy Beer Battered Cactus with Chipotle Aioli Offside-Rugby Poke- Raw Ahi Tuna, Avocado, Green Onions and Jalapenos with a Soy Ginger Sauce. Served with Crispy Wonton Chips Every dish I've had was good. French fries could be a bit thicker cut (IMO).

This neat little pub is located in a really cool looking building in a part of Richmond I had never been to before. The pub has a rugby theme with menu items named after rugby positions and plays and rugby ball covered lights over the bar. Rugby jerseys, ties, and photos of local teams and players adorn the walls. As expected the pub carries several UK beers as well as US standards. Our crew had the chicken wings, fried shrimp, and a hamburger. All were exactly what one would expect from an above average pub. We were there just a few days after the place opened so they were still working out some kinks in the service but the staff was very friendly and accommodating. I will certainly be back and I look forward to spending more time at the Up and Under.

Nice selection of beers on tap. I'm a regular here. I've tried the burgers, the fish and chips, the ahi poke and each time the dishes were solidly executed. I've never experienced any of the flaws in food or service noted by some of the other reviewers.

I've hung out in PR for 18 yrs and lived there for the past 7 and there has never been a decent restaurant, pub, hangout spot since the old Baltic...we're talking pre-2005 people?!??! Sure there are some good daytime spots but I'm talking about a place open for lunch, dinner and late nite. Nathan & Nikki (owners) took this divey (not in a good way) bar and transformed it into a place I wanna to be at 24-7 (if they would allow it). Its cozy, charming, sporty, hip & divey (in a very good way) all rolled into one and best of all...I can walk there. Lucky me! Check this place out and you'll be sure to come back.

i really love that up & under opened in the point. we really needed a casual pub fare spot to go with the family. everything i have had has been great, the 2 stand out items where the grilled veggie starter and the day special of a meatball sandwich. its hard to go out and find something healthy.. the veggies were perfect and the meatball sandwich was the best i have had. great spot for lunch, dinner, or to grab a beer.

Had a great meal there with my boyfriend. Got there at 630pm on Friday evening and the place was PACKED. We got a nice table had a Boddington's before ordering. Nearby was a family of 10 or so celebrating a one of the kid's birthdays. Next to us were a couple of table of folks who had gotten off work and headed over. There were no seats at the bar. Rugby matches on the television. The remodeled space is great. I had a burger with lovely shoestring fries and several Boddy's to go with. He had the fish and chips. The cooks are a little light on the seasoning (fine with me cause I like to enjoy the saltiness of the blue cheese that was in my burger, but the fish needed a little salt). We had a good night and will definitely go back to try more.

I have been waiting for this place to open for the longest time! Being a resident of Point Richmond it's nice to have a cool place to eat and drink in a relaxed setting. While pretty much all the food joints close at five in the Point, so it's refreshing to have a place that stays open late. One of the owners waited on us last Sunday night, he was very friendly and seemed genuinely concerned about our opinion. We had the Richmond Prick, which was delicious and kick ass fish and chips. The peeps are cool and a good time was had by all. You should check this place out!! You won't be disappointed!!!

One of the BEST burgers I've ever had - cant remember the name but it had Blue Cheese oozzzinnng out of the inside. The bread is so soft and yummy. Cant say enough about the place - we also had the grilled chicken sandwich with bacon. VERY yummy also. Great place to go have lunch and a drink.

Love the look of the place. Need to escort families to the dining area and not let them take up space in the bar with little kids that don't want to sit. Hard to watch TV's sitting in the booth. You have to turn sideways which is a little hard on the neck. Had the ahi tuna appetizer. Great price. But too salty. Came with won ton chips which tasted like old oil. Had the pulled pork. Requested slaw on the side not on sandwich. Meat was luke warm. Meat was spicy. Never had spicy pulled pork. Prefer the original. Slaw had raisins so I did not try it. My husband said it was bland. There were so many items I was dying to try. I'm kind of hesitant right now to go back. I might wait a few months and see how the next reviews are.

This is my current favorite place. They have a friendly atmosphere, good drink selection and excellent food. I like how they are not afraid to experiment with the specials and even the standard menu (not too many places offer deep fried cactus). It's a rugby bar so only rugby is on tv which is cool. They are also very family friendly and are very accommodating to little kids. I sometimes wish it was a little bigger but a packed house just means people are enjoying it as much as I am.
